I've got a 92 EG and the paint on the base of the mirrors and the trim along the window sill is all chipped off..... Nothing like white and black cow spot mirrors and half silver window trim =P

Main problem is the trim is silver plastic, i dunno how well the paint would stick to it. That and I'd have to repaint all four doors or they'd look funny.

I was just wondering the best type of paint to use? Flat black and clear coat, or glossy/semi-gloss and clear coat. Want it to match the rest of the mirror/trim.

 

Your problem is very common among our aging 1992-195 Civics, so don't worry.

The mirrors will need to be sanded down with some pretty fine sand paper to hopefully knock off the rest of the coating/paint. You might want to remove the mirrors, or tape up REALLY good around them. Remember to not paint the rubber trim/seal on the bottoms of them.

After they look smooth enough paint them with some Duplicolor Bumper and Plastic Trim paint. This **** is THE bomb when it comes to duplicating the plastic bumper black color. With the right prep work they will look good as new again.

As far as the trims on the doors go, you do mean the ones that run horizontal along the bottm of your windows, right?

Simply peel the rest of the black off and then sand the rest off, leaving you with only a silver bare letal looking trim. Tape up your entire window and the areas around the trims and then spray them with a good flat black or even better, Brite Touch General Purpose paint from AutoZone.
