Default Air Conditioning

I have a 97' Honda Accord 180,000 miles. The air conditioning is not working... so I figured the freon must be low, so i checked it and it is overfilled. Is that why the AC is not working? I haven't had a chance to take out the extra freon yet, but I wanted to post here first and see if that really is the problem. I can feel the compressor turn on, and the idle smooth out when i turn the AC on.

How do you know the system is overfilled with refrigerant?

if it's overfilled, get the level back to normal, then start diagnosing. dropping the pressure may correct the problem.

I checked the refrigerant with a gauge.
