sohc vitara question
ive searched with lil to no luck im building my d16a6 for boost an was wondering if i can use stock rods or is there somewhere i can buy pistons already on rods like g.e or something all help is welcome and thanx
it would be pointless to build the engine at all if you plan on retaining stock rods. the failing point with stock engines is not the pistons, it's the puny *** rods. i would recommend getting some eagle rods or custom length i-beam rods from fj distributors. if you're set on using stock rods though then know that the hp cap is going to be the same as any stock d-series at right around 220hp.
i dont want to use stock rods ive been doing alot of research but still an finding deadends on wat company to buy rods from my buddy said i can find package deal on vitaras on rods ne1 got link i cnt find this
Try this:

You're talking about a vitara build, so I'm assuming you've been to a SOHC forum. If not then go here:
www.d-series.org
Honda-Tech is great, but there isn't enough SOHC information on here.

if you run anytype of h beam rod, you will have to slightly notch the block. i have built a few vitra motors. one i used stock rods and achived much higher HP than 220. its all about tuneing and building. clean the stock rod up, shot peen it and it would be fine. but i would greatly recomend you buy a stronger rod. you can buy combos, use ebay, they have a nice kit for 400$ with vitra pistons and i beleve eagle rods. some have told me that you can use other rods frrom other motors, but im not sure about that.

do not dare use the stock internals with a turbo, at max 6psi is all it can hold which is pointless, get a CP piston kit, which includes eagle rods which can handle up to 28psi, though you should never do that, and also get a new camshaft aswell I plan to build my a6 also this is my inspiration

how do you figure 6psi, look at all these threads of single cam turbo builds, with all sorts of stock internals. if built right. it can handle more. hell with stock sleeves and good tune, you can boost a good piston and rod combo to 15 or more, and with a great tune on wtock rods and low comp pistons you and do 10psi or more. it all depends. i rebuilt a single with acl bearings and cometic 3 layer head gasket and hit 12 psi on a boost by gear tune and i was stock internals and it lasted a long time. it all matters in tuneing and timeing and buid. look at forums on here. every one has his or her build of a stock build
well i ve decided to do vitaras wit eagle rods and a bisi stage 2 na cam im juss deciding whose gunna build it 2 big shops around me both with sohc records lol
hey no problem! you should build it your self. save money from a shop doing it, and you know your motor than take it to a good pro shop and have them tune it. bring it by spokane when its done!
lol me and my friend bought a fully rebuilt y8 added vitara pistons thats it witha z6 head boosted on 10 pounds with rc450s on a basemap with nothing to worry about new map sensor and fuel pump and hes going for 20 its all about the tune a friend of mine has a fully stock internal gsr that makes 500whp
