The other day i removed the piping on my stock intake. It seemed unnecessary. Am i hurting my car by doing this? Sorry if this question has been answered a million times.

 

Question: How is your engine supposed to get the cooler ambient air temps if its limited to the 200* air sitting on top of your valve cover?

 

By removing the pipes, you're also going to lose low end power, which is what you need the most. I recommend that you do a lot research on how things work, before you start looking for other things that seem unnecessary.

On a y7 intake like you have, not so much. You need to put it all back on. Having no piping is going to kill your torque, and sucking up all of the engine bay heat is going to kill your horsepower.

On a y8 intake, you can remove the piping up to the airbox, which sits right behind the passenger side headlight. That will free up a tiny bit of power and makes it sound like a short ram. It works perfectly fine... I've been running like that for years with zero problems, except now I have a modified LS arm to make it fit my gsr manifold.

If you want to piece together an OEM short ram, you'll need a y8 intake manifold, arm, and airbox.

 

+1. the air going into the engine will lose all its velocity.keep the pipe. When you become and engineer for Honda, then you can decide what is uneccessary.
