Default Intake Poll:

The key point of this poll should be for daily drivers/weekend warriers. The best option to get a decent gain in power and sound, yet be practical enough for everyday driveing, weather, and engine life in mind.

I have 2 good reasons for this poll..

1)Ive been hearing alot of good things about using the stock piping with the crumples in it to cuase a better combustion of air, im not sure exactly, but thats what alot of people have been saying.. So i wanted to see if anybody who really knows what they are talking about would pick the stock piping over the smooth aftermarket pipes

2)Ive been hearing alot of good things about short rams powergains over cold air systems, not sure about that whole thing awswell...

and 3) this is an extra just for my puposes, i guess i dont have a bypass valve option on my Cold Air Intake (AEM), cuase it was one the first models, and it seems it donest have the break in the middle to fit the valve, im not sure on that though, havent reasearched at all, so i wanted to see the what people would say anyway.

you need to search and read some more.....there is a wealth of information on this site.

i say that because you left off the only one worth puting on your car........the velocity stack

i really only consider 3 options for a dd.......
1) good drop in filter
2) cheap ebay pipe and a good filter
3) velocity stack

a lot of people are dumb.....only thing the crumples would do is disrupt air flow

thats nice....why?

OP: you have to hacksaw the AEM pipe in half to use the bypass valve.

Just get a 3" CAI, and stick a cheap velocity stack on the end, done. The bpi stack is cheap and durable.

WOW....I forgot about them! An Iceman CAI with FlowStack may be a winning combo. I want to dig one up to test!! Are they still out there?

Do you actually have a reason for this? The filter is there for a reason! Making some Drag Passes w/o one is 1 thing....Daily Driving w/o one, I think not. Have you see the amount of crap that comes out of the filter when you wash it?!?!?!

A year from now we'll see a post!

Not to mention the BYPASS steals power......It was 7whp on the VQ35...

actually, yes i do daily drive my prelude with no air filter.. and no.. i would never say "I don't know why my motor blew!!" considering i hand built the motor.. and if i did blow the motor, i can definetely tell you the cause would not be from not running an air filter.

Is there a particular reason for this? I know the ITB guys let it all flow in.....
It was more aimed at JDizzle's ricer ***......
I am curious as to why you don't.....What type of filter-less intake setup do you run? I just can't see running a CAI without a filter as being healthy for a motor considering the crap that has been washed out of my filter in the past....Bugs, leaves, and even small chips of stones...
A leaf or bug would be disintegrated upon combustion, but I could see a small chip of stone being a potential Valve opening issue.....

Everyones voting for cold air intake..... so what do you do when it rains? and the bypass valve jacks all your horspower.... i mean i have a cold air intake, but i feel sketchy driving in the rain.

Also, nobody knows anything about the myth of the stock piping having usefull crumples in it for better 'fuel atomization' or 'combustion' as ive heard quite a few times..

I don't know about that man, how can you say that particles are not going to score cylinder walls when they get in there, or even right inside your turbo, mess up the blades or housing?

There is no debating that without an air filter you're going to suck up a lot of particles.

i just run my car straight turbo, no filter on it... probably when i switch turbo i will fab a 4 inch intake for the turbo..
i live in a area with particularly clean streets, with little to no dust.. i usually try to avoid areas where construction is being done, where dust can be kicked up from the ground.

to mgags: yeah you are right, there is no debate, air filters do work, and they do their job good..

im not too worried about sucking up bugs rocks or leaves.. i rarely see that happening on when and where i drive the prelude

So a very isolated situation.......
Has anyone here tried the BLITZ filter. The D series Civic Auto-Xer's swear by it.
I am going to be playing with some different setups this year. Blitz, BPI, HKS filters.
The K&N and Greddy were within 1hp of each other when I tested them...

It may be worth trying if you have a dyno to play with...
How about header wrapping the intake piping?

Is the injen sri worth buying or are there better options? I don't want cai because it rains where I am and don't want to risk my motor.

The short ram is probably your best bet, unless you have some cash, then go with an AEM V2 intake. I hear people are really happy about them. I run an AEM short ram on my car, since it rains alot where I live. PRELUDE LOVE!
