Default Welcome my new Rex =]

Bought this car off a brazilian guy for $1300. It seemed like he kind of knew what he had but I don't think he really knew the potential.. Well anyways my first car.. Best $1300 dollars of my life =] The people before the guy that sold me seemed to have restored the beast.

Things to do:
Lower the car.. A little higher than tucking.
Fix the leak from headgasket and oil pan.
Change axles

Just a pointer to watch out for. I mistakenly replaced the head gasket because I saw oil constantly on that little corner by the VTEC solenoid. I thought it was the head gasket.

After I replaced the head gasket, there was still oil leaking from the same spot, so I thought I made a mistake during the head gasket job, so I did it again with a new gasket.

Long story short, 16 hours of my time wasted and about $200 in parts later, I realized that it was not the head gasket, but the VTEC solenoid gaskets that were leaking.

Leaks in that area can be tricky, so make sure you are not giving yourself extra work. Even though it might not look like its coming from there, you have to be careful because the oil drips so slowly that it doesn't look like there is anything coming from the VTEC solenoid.

Check these before doing the head gasket just in case:

dizzy seal
cam plug
VTEC solenoid gasket
VTEC solenoid spool valve gasket

Good luck

By the way, same goes for the oil pan gasket. General rule with leaks is to start high. Make sure everything is clean when you're looking for the leak. Oil will naturally drip down toward the oil pan, so it might look like the pan is leaking when in fact it is simply dripping from something else located above the pan.

Sweet ride

Nice haddowj. I wish I was RHD. I'm just saving my money to make the car a little more faster and i'll be working on suspension and looks.

aasarsak, Very helpful. My friend is a mechanic and he knows basically everything b16's and he's helping me this weekend. I hope I don't have to waste too much money, thanks for the heads up tho.

Where could I get Prelude fog lights? Since the CRX OEM ones are hard as F$%^ to find

My VTEC solenoid gasket is like loose. Well the plug going to it is, the people before me zip tied it so it can be in place but my VTEC isn't hitting at all. Could it be that aswell?

You should perform a search to answer your new question. VTEC not engaging is a topic that has been thoroughly covered before.

You should check out the FAQ

Yeah well its down to like 3 things at the moment. I just wanted to ask that because my solenoid is loose. And held on by a zip tie. Which isn't in the FAQ. I have searched. So should I plan on buying a new solenoid?
