Default Engine won't start up sometimes.

I have a 1996 Honda Accord Ex. When it rains or when my car gets washed, it won't start up after. Besides this, my car doesn't start up sometimes as well. My dad has replaced the battery but it turned out that it wasn't the battery. I haven't been home for the last two years so I don't know whats going on.

I've taken the car to the mechanic but he doesn't know what's wrong with the car. He is assuming that it is the ECU.

My friend (who works at Honda Racing) has told me that it could be because of the serpentine belt or because of corrosion of the cylinders due to bad maintenance.

If anyone feels that they may know whats wrong with my car, please help.
Thank you in advance.

Is your check engine light on?

Test/replace the PGM-FI main relay and check/test/replace your distributor components. Look for corrosion or worn components. Cap, rotor, ignitor, Spark plugs and plug wires....... If your serpentine belt is worn out & slipping then it is true that your alternator may not be charging the system properly. Check the belt and replace if it's cracked or worn.

Can you explain this issue of "corrosion of the cylinders due to bad maintenance" that your (Honda Racing) mechanic is referring to?

As well, if it is something wrong with the ECU the check engine light (CEL) would most likely be on.

Wow finally a reply of brilliance.. any suggestions on my issue?

On my 86 Prelude is the PGM-FI relay the same as the one which has RZ-0037 on it?
