Questions about auto work on a 2001 Honda Accord EX Coupe
Okay, so I bought my first Honda Accord. A 2001 EX Accord Coupe 92k miles ($2500, how could anyone say no). That said it needed some work. I got new break pads and rotors on the back, new timing belt, seals, water pump, fair filter, and the 100k tune up.
That said it still needs a little work. I need to get the front rotors resurfaced as when I stop at a speed greater than 60mph greater, the wheel rattles a lot.
When I drive there is a loud 'huuum' noise coming from the back. I can't tell if it is the muffler or the tires. The noise sounds like a muffler, however, it's a constant noise. It doesn't really get louder or quieter as I accelerate or slow down. Any suggestions?
Also my window goes up crooked. Water can't get in (it looks sealed), but their is a lot of air noise. I forgot what the guy said it was, but how much would it cost to get this fix?

i have the same problem with my window passenger side. i took it apart and coulint find what was wrong. the humming could be a wheel bearing.
Yeah, I'm not to worried about the window right now.
Is the wheel bearing expensive to fix/replace?
Also, am I better off buying the parts from some online retail place and bringing them to a dealer rather than having a dealer supply the parts?
I am asking mainly from a quality and cost perspective?

For me, I think it may be worth it. It's not quiet by any means!!
How much would it cost you? Is it something the mechanic can tell if it is the problem with out having to replace it?

you can tell if its the bearing by jacking up the front of the car and puting it in drive , then put a long screwdriver against the steering knuckle. if the bearing is bad you will hear it. thats how they would do it at the dealer. the bearing alone is about 40 bucks. you do need a press to get the bearing out.

Congratulations on your good deal. Sounds like a faulty wheel bearing to me, as well. Take that for what it's worth considering I haven't actually heard the noise.
