Steering problem (Bump Steer)
My 2010 civic drives in a perfectly straight line and the steering wheel is dead center, but every time I take my hands off the steering wheel it moves slightly to the left or right and does this even more on very slight road imperfections. It's a pain correcting the car all the time.
I have had a couple of wheels alignments done and the specs are perfect with no noise or rattles.
My Mazda and Toyota don't do this, so there must be an adjustment to correct the problem. Any advice welcome !!!!

Isn't that what driving is? You the driver needs to keep the car steering where you want it go. Comparing between different manufactures is an apples to oranges comparison.

If you've had a few alignments already your car is fine. I'm gonna go with what k5 said lol.
Also for those of you who have done alignments it can be tricky to get everythng dead on for the printout after tighting everything down. Thier may a difference of a few thousands of a degree with your toe, it's not gonna make a difference.

Ok, I took the car back to the wheel alignment shop today and they checked everything on the machine again and test drove on various roads with a minor adjustment to get the steering wheel dead center.
He noticed that the steering wheel jumped to the left or right a bit and wasn't normal.
It's very annoying.

No clue what doing so does to bumpsteer on an 8Th gen Civic, but on the older (EG/EK) generations, adding caster adds a lot of bumpsteer, but really helps prevent the car from wandering and tramlining while driving straight.
I was in a Honda Service Center yesterday and I got talking to the MD about my problem.
After a test drive on a service center cobbled test surface some uneven roads, he acknowledged that the steering rack was a bit sensitive and at first blamed the tires, but then I told him the car had been like this since new.
He lifted the car and showed me an adjustment which could be made on the steering rack housing using a special wrench.
On the test drive after the first adjustment the steering wouldn't return to center after a tight U turn. Then he adjusted it back a little and Wow, the steering feels perfect.
He said this a factory problem in 1-10,000 cars and technicians don't like to adjust it.

Actually, I have been to a few service centers who said this was problem normal or blamed the alignment, wheel or tires etc.
I quess, if you talk to the right person like the MD you can get anything done quickly. Technicians jumping all over the place to show what they can do when this guy is around.
