Default What turbo would be good for my Si?

So I have a buddy at work who has a hook up at Turbonetiks, and says that he can get me a turbo for my kit for about 200-300 bucks. But i'm not sure on what type of turbo to get, I know alot of B-series guys used T3/T4's but i'm not sure if thats good for the Si. I'm not trying to boost it to the moon, but i'm thinkin like 250hp area because its also my DD. Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks.

I'm not very familiar with turbos but I think T3/T4 only refers to the flange on the turbo/manifold.

GT3076 is just about the most perfect turbo for this motor. Lowest I would go is the GT28

You are correct.

There are a few different sized T3/T4 turbos.

As stated above, GT30 is the way to go.

A twin scroll td05 could do the job too if you only look at 250 hp

^ Isn't the td05 a subaru turbo? I have a WRX also and it has a td04.

2008 fiji I think you are right, t3/4 is a flange designation but I'm not entirely sure either.

A gt30r probly would be good. Mine is a prescision turbo but I think it's comparable to a garret 35r or 37r. It might be overkill at times but still fun. My boost doesn't start to hit hard until 4k. It's perfectly fine as a daily driver but sometimes I think a smaller one that would spool at 3k would be better but you need a big enough turbo that will not run out of breath at 8000-8500 So a 28r I would think to be the smallest you can use

I think your buddy is just getting you the turbo for that price and not a kit. A good turbo housing can cost over a grand alone....Kits generally go for 3 to 5 grand plus install and tuning and gauges possibly...It's a draining endeavor.

I don't agree with AJP on much () but he speaks absolute sense.

You need to look at not only the cost of the turbine/compressor alone, but the big picture. The big picture includes all necessary parts that accompany the housing, the install of all parts, and the time/money spent fine tuning your car.

TD05 is from mitsubishi and they used it on the evo 10 and it start to spool a 3000 rpm and can give you power till 8000 rpm easy !!! I think its should be better for a DD, my two cents!!

t3/t4 is a hybrid i think. t3 exhaust side and t4 compressor side, or vise versa. but whichever it is, it all comes down to the size, i think they look at the A/R aspect ratio. i think if you want to spool fast and you are not trying to boost alot then maybe a .60 A/R T3-T3/T4 would be good, relatively cheap also compared to others such as the GT series of turbos.

So I talked to my buddy and he said that he needs the serial number for either the TD05 or the GT3076?

What would the serial number do for him? ^

I'm starting to think more and more you don't have a clue how a turbo works or what it really is. You would need to entirely different manifolds for those 2 turbos. And a TD05 is internally wastegated and the garret is not. So what difference does the serial number make?

In addition to needing different manifolds, those two turbos require different style downpipes.......help me help you.....help me help you.

Also when you say your buddy has a hook up do you mean the turbos are stolen?!

That's not true....everyone is not ooking for a 1/4 mile moster.

I have that turbo and it's fun but I don't spool until 4k rpms. If you plan on going to 500-650hp then this is a good turbo but if you only want 350hp you will probably only be pushing this turbo to 6 psi. You wouldn't be using this turbo to it's capacity.

If somone catches me off guard in the wrong gear I'm toast and am no better off than a stock SI. A smaller turbo would give me more usable torque at 2500rpm and not run out of breath at 8000rpm if I was only pushing 350hp.

If you run the prescision 6262 at low psi you have the wastegate open and would be pushing all the exhaust through the dump tube.

if your only looking for 250 whp i would just go with there basic t3/t4 50 trim or to4 57. even their 60-1 most of those turbos will leave you with some options, i would recommend going with something externally wasgated that way in the future you have room to change springs and play with your power goals easier.
but in my opinion before you jump on a kit know your going to spend around 2 thousand in other parts to get your car running correctly and reliable like a ems, fuel pmp, inject, ect worry about your tune and you should be all set. good luck

also i would try posting in the forced induction thread you might be able to get more help.

True. I'm not very tubo savy. He was a distributer for Garrett Turbos, and got them hooked up with Turbonetics. He told me he can get me a turbo for about 200-300 bucks through Garrett. He said he needs a serial number so he can call his buddy and order it. I know I'll need a manifold, injectors, downpipe etc... I already have Hondata Flashpro. I'm just trying to figure out which turbo would be good for a DD. I like what AJP is talking about with making boost through the majority of the RPM range. What turbo were you talking about?

You know that Full Race has multiple options for their kit?....Care to elaborate on that?....So you are saying just pick up the phone and order a Full race kit with any old turbo housing?

Yeah it would be ashame to think that you had the best with Full Race only to hear me chuckle in your face when you maxed out your GT30 and AJP's turbo hadn'e even broken a sweat to make the same power....But yeah Full Race is the best I guess.
