Default Help, passenger front wheel making noises!!!!

hey all,

I noticed my front passenger wheel making knocking noises when I start driving straight or making a slight right turn, but when I make left turn or slightly turn left, there are no noises. I jacked up the car and take a look and the cv boot seem to be fine, no leaking or tearing. I moved the wheel up and down side to side to see if the wheel baring is bad or not, but the wheel does not move. Any other idea what could be?

Thanks

Check the ball joints and tie rod.

I did that and all of those seem to be in ok shape. Oh I should have mention that the noise only appear when I accelerate. I thought that usually would be the axle, but I don't see any damage on the outside of it.

Take a look at the radius rod on the suspension. Also the tranny mount sits right above the wheel area. If it's busted it might be drivetrain shift you are hearing.

When the inboard & outboard joints go bad, the boot doesnt have to be in bad shape. It can still clunk with good boots.

Check your axle. Those are exact symptoms of a bad axle

Thanks all, I checked most of what you all mentioned, and I only see one of the balljoint boot is torn, other than that, the rest look fine. For the axle, is there a way to find out if it bad? I lifted up the car and spin the wheel by hand and does not hear any noises from the axle. Also, the noises are heard at low speed, at high speed, >40 mph, I don't really hear anything.

The last time my axle gone bad, my car shook violently when I pressed on the gas. This time, nothing happen. Or maybe it not gone really bad yet???

One last question, I keep getting lost about this. I have a 95 Accord 4d, and swap h22a. Are the axle still from the Accord or Prelude now? I might order them online since it cheaper than outside.

Thanks.

Grab the axle shaft. Push and pull on it rotate it front and back w/o moving the wheel. If their is a bit of play and either direction that is a sign of a bad axle.

Another way to tell is go in a parking lot, and drive in a circle slowly, Have someone walk next to the car, they should be able to determine which axle it is.

Also another way i have heard people do that works but i have never performed myself is jack up the car, support the from lcas with jack stands, and start and run the engine and turn the wheel in the direction where it makes the noise and you can instantly pinpoint noise if it is a axle.

Thanks TheAsian, I'll try the first method you gave. The last one, I did think of that but afraid to try. Don't want anything happen if the jack decide to fail on me and run the car thru somewhere I don't want lol.

Push the outboard joint against it's shaft and rotate it like you would on a joy stick to see if there's any hesitation or hard movements. Thats a sign of bad joints. You have to do this with the axle out of course or if you can, do them while its still in the tranny and out from the knuckle.

I will try those this sat. BTW, is it possible to remove the axle nut without using an air gun? I searched around and most comments made are either too tough or keep breaking their tools.
