Review: GSR Tranny finally rebuilt to ITR specs + JDM FD
I just got back tonight from CHEETAH's house after leaving the car there for a week to have my tranny rebuilt.
I threw out all my GSR internals and replaced them with new B16A/ITR 1-5th gears with new synchros, added a JDM FD, 7lb. Fidanza flywheel, Exedy street clutch, and a Kaaz 1.5 way LSD (which was already in the tranny).
All I have to say is wow, the car revvs up much faster and the RPM's are higher.
At 60 MPH in 5th gear my car revs at 3500 RPM's. I had the choice of going with a GSR 5th but I weanted to be extreme...but I'll live with it.
in 5th gear on the highway, passing other traffic is real easy. Previously I had major problems shifting gears, but now, everything shifts like brand new, no more grinds nada.
Anyhow, all I need to do now is break in the clutch properly and try to catch some autocross or track events before the season is out.
After driving for a few hours and getting stuck in traffic on the way home, I imagine how much crazier the ATS FD will be, but for now, I'll stick with my set-up.

thats sounds like an awesome setup
im still debating on what i want to do with my tranny
i know some type of bearings are not soo good anymore in my gsr tranny, im debating adding itr or other lsd and ats final drive plus ls 5th or getting 98+ itr tranny with the goodies all ready in there
did you get the b16 gears new or find a good deal used? how much for all the new synchros?

I paid $1400 for everything, parts and labor, and new JDM FD
It sure beats paying $2K plus for a new ITR tranny that doesnt even come with an FD
try the ats gear set, thats crazy.
try the ats gear set, thats crazy.
The only thing is, I'm not crazy enough to go all out with the ATS gearset.

You forgot to mention the B's dude, That gearing with the B's makes for a very potent ride. Good for you, glad you're happy.
Good luck and keep it safely away from crooks.
