I am preparing to take a 20 hour road trip and wanted to know is there any tape I can safely put on the front bumper (like what I have seen people do at the track). I've never been and I don't really know what it is, where I can get it, or if it's even safe for that amount of time. I could go out a purchase a bra, however it's probably going to be expensive in the sense that I'm only going to use it all of two times.
Other preparations include:
- check tires (rears have been replaced 5,000 miles ago)
- oil change (it's within 1k of next change)
- change coolant (it's time)
- change transmission and diff fluid (I'll be under the car anyway)
- purchase a spare set of HID bulbs
- check the spare tire
- some type of fuel/injector cleaner
- fill the trunk with ice and beer
Anything else of concern that I may need? It's been awhile since I've been on a long road trip like this since I will typically daily drive and opt to fly instead.

That won't hurt the paint being on for 20 hours in sun and wind? Seems obvious since it's painter's tape, but I just want to be certain instead of sorry when I go to remove it.

Nah, I use it for HPDEs all the time. It actually says it won't leave residue even in the sun for like 48 hours or something like that. It still leaves some residue...but bug and tar remover will take it off EASILY. Just don't buy any off brands if they sell them. Buy the real deal 3M stuff. Just to be safe.

Lol @ preperation. I used to fearlessly go cross country by myself with my EF that literally (no joke) burned 1qt of oil every 100 miles. It had lots of shakes and rattles, eBay coils, stock blown shocks and the car had been thru hell. Belts poking thru the tires. never aligned.
My prep was to buy a case of oil. I once had to drive the car back 1000 miles on 3 cylinders. Another time, the lower radiator hose collapsed. So...drove with the heat blasting in 90degree weather for exactly 930 miles. The rain storm during that trip meant closed windows for a little while.
None of thst was exxagerated. I'm a wreckless dude. I always make it there/back just fine, though.

So the one thing I didn't check went wrong and I was lucky enough I hadn't even left. I intended on driving Thursday night, put it off and ended up leaving Friday right at noon. At least that was the plan, the car wouldn't start. The battery was completely dead, no signs, no nothing, just D-E-A-D. Could have been worse as I could have been on the road stopped somewhere for gas or at a hotel.
