Default Changing the tranny fluid on a eg civic

I researched online how to do this and everyone says:
Make sure you can get the filler plug loose before you drain it..
Use a six-point socket or wrench as it strips easily..
Remove the drain plug witha 3/8" ratchet/extension

After you drain it,replace the drain plug and fill it
until it runs out the filler plug replace plug and you're done.

so to do this, i take off the filler plug and the drain plug. Then after draining the fluid i put the drain plug back in and fill it up leaving the filler plug unpluged. Then after filling up i put the filler plug back in. If this is correct please tell me and if not can you explain!

Also what transmission fluid is best for a high mileage tranny.

your process is correct. however it is not necessary to remove the filler plug before draining the fluid. that is for the ones that are not mechanically inclined and drain there tranny and then get stuck not knowing where to fill from. Removing the filler plug before doesnt affect how your fluid is drained. you already have a breather on the top of the tranny so it would come out the same either way

as for fluid its Honda Genuine Manual Transmission Fluid only. purchase from dealer.
some on here will argue otherwise but if you want to know for sure call honda and ask them.

Manual transmissions don't have a dipstick. If its an automatic it wont have a fill hole and you fill through the dipstick.

you have no dipstick. just a drain and a fill hole. will be on passenger side of tranny.

ive filled mine through the vent hole and took the filler nut out and watch untill it started to drip out. its a slow process but it worked for me and not such a pain trying to fill it through the side of the tranny

fill it by takin out one 10mm bolt and removing the VSS. Take out the filler plug and leave the drain plug in.

fill through the vehicle speed sensor hole until it begins to drip out of the filler plug.

Now, my question is, is that if the car was lowered before being bought and you don't know the exact drop, I don't exactly have a stock "level" car. Would I have to manually measure out 1.9 quarts outside of the tranny, then fill?

why waste all that effort removing the vss. you still ahve to remove the fill plug to see how much ur putting in (if your not measuring it out). buy a funnel with a hose at the end, done deal, or the hoses you can screw right on the bottle. there only $.99-1.99

the more parts you take off the more chances you have of something going wrong.
you guys are making a simple oil change more complicated than it should be

Well, I basically found my answer, but now I have a different question. Does an Ej8 take 1.9 quarts or 2.5?

I've also heard of people using GM syncromesh in their hondas. Any input on that?

I think tranny fluid is personal preference. I just use what honda calls for.

and removing one 10mm bolt on the speed sensor is easier than trying to pour liquids into a vertical opening.

personal preference, that's all.
