so i bought a 89 crx i thought it was a hf but i really dont know how to tell. so im sure some of you guys on here will be able to help me.

 

dx will be dpfi. hf will be mpfi. hf will have no rear sway bar mounting brackets. there are other things as well but those are just the first that came to mind.

 

hf has an egr valve, dx doesnt

 

hf will say "hf" in the passenger rear triangle, front hubs will have a smaller hole for the smaller hf/std axles, gas tank will be smaller, cluster will have redline at 5k, etc

 

ok.. i will check these out tomorrow, it doesnt say anything on the hatch, no motor in the car. So ill check the tach and sway bar mounts tomorrow. thanks

 

89 hf = pillar mounted seat belts!
89 dx/si = door mounted seat belts!

op if your car has 8 valves it is a hf 16 valves is a dx or si

 

DX has a 3 spoke steering wheel hf/si have only 2 spokes

 

ok so its gotta be a dx because it has door mount seat belts... so am i gunna have to do a bunch of wiring to swap in a 1st gen B16a?

 

crx dx has rear wiper and HF doesnt.

 

not really no. just have to convert to mpfi which requires running a few wires to the ecu and around the engine bay.

Th Hf does have a two spoke steering wheel, but the both the Dx and Si have the three spoke wheel.

 

Yes, they did!!
Some 'tuner boy' may have since removed the Hf letters, but every Hf originally came from Honda with the Hf letters. The Dx is the only 'unnamed' model CRX.

 

ok it has door mount belts, three spoke steering wheel and a rear wiper, im pretty sure from what everyone has said its a dx.

 

my hf didnt come with it and i know a few others that didnt come with the letters on the back but nice try covering it with "tuner boy" comment, im the 2nd owner of my rex the first being an old guy that kept it stock and never touched it

 

so since i have a dx and im dropping in a b16 who makes a conversion wiring harness? i think i seen that hasport make something but im not sure what i need.

 

you can pay peter at rywire to make you one, or you can just take your stock dx harness and convert it to mpfi yourself. certainly will save a lot of money that way.
