Default Newbie Honda Questions

Hi guys,
i am brand new to the whole idea of engine swapping in hondas.
My main goal right now is to build a any year civic under a 2000 with a B18c1 engine. And at some point put a turbo charger on it.

The problem for me is i dont know about the ECM and wiring harness.
When i have the whole engine, harness and ecu, is that total seperate from the rest of the cars wiring?
And what are all of these differnt obd1 to obd2 connectors or obd2 to obd1 and etc?
Is it best if i have a obd1 car to stay with a obd1 engine? and vise versa?

I am greatful for any help.
Thx
TJ

Let's put it this way. Since you're turbocharging then you're going to need to tune. The only way you can tune is with a chipped OBD1 ECU. Therefore (someone please correct me if I am wrong) if you buy an OBD2 engine then you're going to have to make sure you buy an OBD2 -> OBD1 conversion harness to make sure the OBD1 ECU "understands" the OBD2 engine. All the harness does is switch around the position of the wires. If you'd plug an OBD1 ECU directly into an OBD2 engine (I am not looking up pinouts so this is just an example of what might happen) the ECU might think that a certain wire represents say the throttle position (OBD1) when that wire actually represents intake air temperature (OBD2). The conversion harness makes sure that the throttle position wire in OBD1 connects to the throttle position wire in OBD2.
