this isnt really a problem i dont think, i had a few grounds go bad (1 on my ckp sensor, 1 on my cyp sensor, and radiator fan, etc.) and so i rewired them directly to the ecu using speaker wire. a co-worker of mine tells me that its gonna cause problems in the long run because the speaker wire is made of different metal material, its set up for different ohms, blah blah. i dont think itll cause any problems.

i had a 76 280z i did some rewiring on with lamp cord... long story, but i dont recommend it

 

If you can I would try to get it back to the way it was from the factory. Your friend is right that there are differences in materials. etc. Yeah, it might work but its not as reliable.
