Default Mid-Range Coilovers Worth It?

I was reading somebody's opinion on another forum who said 1500+ is what you should be spending on coilovers, anything less and it's not worth it. If you just want to ride low, to get some springs and struts. If you want real performance you need to get coilovers, proper coilovers.

My budget for lowering my civic is about 700 dollars.. I have Canadian winters but adjustability isn't a HUGE deal although that's the selling point of coilovers for me..

1 - Not important to 5 - Very important
Drop amount - 3
Ride quality - 2
Reliability - 5

Recommend something in the $600-800CAD range please.. I've heard somebody recommend ebay coilovers with kyb or koni shocks.. What's this about?

Thanks for any insight!

Anybody have any complaints about Progress coilovers? They have a few different types.. Some are more track oriented

I want maybe 2-2.5 drop, to avoid problems I would need a pretty stiff ride? Can I adjust this with these coilovers? My ride quality isn't too important as long as it's not RIDICULOUS.. And I don't want UCA problems..

So if anyone has run a drop like 2.5" without issues, let me know what you used.

And would it be worth it to go GC/koni setup for a bit more money?

For your price range you might as well only look @ Koni/GC. Maybe Pic apex's. 3rd would be Progress. If your broke *** just turn my list around.

How low can I go with the koni/GC and still be reliable?

Again, ride quality is not too important as long as it's tight. Stiff spring rates needed?

They can pretty much slam and ride decent but you need to get the top hats if you want to dump your car. You can run up to 550 lbs but what will you be using this for? Daily, Auto-X?

For that pricerange, I'd do Koni Yellows and a decent of lowering springs. Or, even Tokico Illumina and lowering springs for a few bucks less.

You get what you pay for when it comes to suspension, and cheap coilovers are exactly what they are.

Koni/gc will slam your car, and in a few minutes rasie up go to the track and be better then most suspensions.

Okay, thanks, so if I slammed it 3 inches, would I have any issues with upper control arms? How do I decide/choose the spring rate? It can't be too soft if I slam it, correct?

you won't slam if you're using oem ucas. i'd say around 450-550 fronts, 350 rears. i have 450-350 atm and haven't hit my ucas. at least a 3" drop for sure, but dont know an exact number.

So you're saying to ride slammed, my UCAs can not be OEM?

Sorry. Meant your ucas won't slam into shock towers if they're oem.

3 inches isnt slammed these days lol, But No you should be just fine,

The reason why he said you wont hit stock ucas is because aftermarket (camber Kits) are taller then oem.. I put a hole in my shock tower in my accord with skunk2's went to oem and the problem was gone.

The spring rate i would do is 450f/ 350-400 in back. Having too soft of spring rates in front will increase the chance of hitting the UCA's. It's kinda hard to hit oem but it is deffiently possible.

Also look into extended top hats, atleast for the front.

Okay, one more question.

GC's are somewhat different depending on what shock you use, correct?

My girlfriend burns my money faster than I can spend it.. I had 800 now I'm at 600.. Somebody said they ran GC's with their stock shocks until they had enough to buy Tokico Illumina's and then swapped that.

I need to do something of this sort or else it will be 2 months before I can buy it all

What shocks can I run on GC's which fit my stock shocks too?

Just be patient, save up, and buy it all at once.

You don't want to have to remove and reinstall the entire suspension twice, much less have to pay to get it aligned twice...

I suppose you're right, it's just my hatch looks like a big tall bowl of rice on 17's and not slammed

All I can think when I drive it is people laughing at meeeeeee!

And Honda's on shut down this week (where I work) so I don't get paid.. And my girlfriend has the week off too so, if I'm broke by the end of the week I'll post up a video of me rolling my car off a cliff.

Anyways, this is the suspension forum, not economics, hopefully one day I'll have enough money. Best place to order this stuff in Canada shipping wise?

Thanks

Maybe try weaksause or thmotorsports?

You could always by the parts seperatly and then just hold them untill you can get everything.

And tell your girl friend to stop spending money, untilly your car gets what it deserves.

Extend your shock travel therefore making them less prone to bottoming out.

Okay, so link me to some good top hats, no experience with these. I'll do as you did, I'll buy the GC's and top hats like tomorrow.. Order them, then when I have enough I'll buy some Koni's!
