I have an LS bottom but no head. I need a head and want to know what my best choice is. i dont want a vtec head because of the high compression and they are pricey.
so far i think my choices are:

* B18A head - i dont know if that will work and what the compression will be
* B18B
* B20 - also dont know if that will work and what the comression will be.

which will be my best choice for compression, availability and price

 

 

Vtec motors only have high compression stock due to the piston... head has some play in it, but very little.

The B18A and B18B heads should yeild the same CR on the block (if the head is not milled) But the B18B has a more efficient head and I/M design, which yields more Hp.

If you have a choice, opt for the B18B.

 

Isn't the B20 head and the B18B head the same?

 

I would say yes, but not definite. Would the combustion chamber be a little larger on the B20 to accomodate the increase in bore ? (Which would also lower CR.)
