Default Problems after rebuild...

Ok, so I have finished my build/re-freshening.

b18c1
12:1 pistons and forged rods
ITR cams with crower springs/retainers
header and catback

I put everything back together, the car runs and drives ok, but i lost a lot of the power and pep the car had last year, it's tuned on a apexi vafc unit. When the motor was disassembled it burned a lot of oil so that was the reasoning behind refreshing it, but it pulled significantly harder. Also at cruising speeds, say 3500rpm, its jittery. Now all of a sudden tonight it has the loopy idle. I haven't changed anything on the setup with the exception of replacing ITR springs and retainers with crower. Any suggestions?

Re-tune, and ditch the vafc. With that setup a VAFC is doing nothing for you. It cannot extract the engines true potential, although it's not-off-the wall crazy compression is a tad up there.

the ONLY reason the vafc is being used is because it was what the motor was tuned on when i got it last year, it was tuned on it in 2004. I guess i am just failing to understand why the motor ran exceptionally well last year minus burning some oil, and now that everything is fresh it runs like absolute garbage

and with the change of you using horseshit for tuning, you probably didn't seat the rings ..

compression is 285 across the board, and I didn't switch the tuning, I used everything exactly how it was. leakdown test also yielded no negative results.
