Default b7 mini-me swap not running right

A little background I had a 92 hatch with a d15b7 that was in a fire. I pulled it and replaced all the seals and put a z6 head on the block. I took the oil jet out of the block and bolted everything up.

I put the motor in my del sol and started the car, it idles a little rough and jumps around some. When the idle drops below 1k or so the oil light comes on and it doesn't run right. Also, i installed a new clutch kit and when I push the clutch in the idle drops and usually dies.

Now the car drives ok and the oil light doesn't come on unless it drops below 1k rpm. I believe the valves need adjusted because they are making noise. It is throwing a CEL for VTEC solenoid because I haven't wired that up yet. I'm not sure what I should check out on the car?

Have you recently pulled the CEL codes to see if any new ones are thrown?

Yes I ran the car for a while until it died and pulled the codes by jumping the plug by the ECU. It pulled code 22, I also pulled the codes while the car was running and still pulled code 22.

It seems like the oil light doesn't come on till the car is a little warm, I'm running just conventional 10w-30 oil.

Have you checked the mechanical and ignition timing? What ECU?

When I put the timing belt on I set the cam and the crank to TDC. The timing mark on the crank pulley lined up with the plastic timing belt cover. I don't have a timing light to check the ignition timing. When I put the distributor on I just centered it in the bolt holes.

So I adjusted the valves and it still sounds like they are making noise but it idles smoother now. However, the oil light is still coming on after it warms up and drops under 1k rpm. Is there possibly something that fell out of the engine while I was working on it that would cause low oil pressure? The only thing I took out was the oil jet that is suppose to be taken out for the mini-me swap.

Also, I forgot to mention earlier i'm running the P28 ECU.

I went out and replaced the oil sending unit. I also adjusted the distributor some and it idles better now and every once in a while it will idle low and the oil light will come on still.

Im curious about the oil light as well. I put together a mini-me years ago and had the same oil pressure problem right away. It ran good except for vtec activation since oil pressure was so low. It spun a rod bearing in a week due to that oil pressure. I wouldnt be driving it around.

Did you let the oil light stay on when you drove it? I've been driving it a little and I keep my foot on the gas a little so the light doesn't come on.

Does it smoke? Is your firing order correct? I just did a mini-me and am also having problems I have been able to use h-t and get most worked out.

No the light only came on at low idle rpm. It would flicker, it never came on full solid.

Yes the firing order is correct. It idles pretty good and doesn't act like it's misssing at all. It's just the oil light comes on sometimes when it idles down.

So I noticed now that there is quite a bit of oil coming out of the valve cover breather. First it was connected to the air intake and my air filter had oil coming out of it. Then I just put a breather on the valve cover and the intake and there is still oil coming out. I'm not sure what causes this.

You should compression test the cylinders. The oil coming out of the breather hints that the piston rings may be worn.
