It should. There should be no fundimental difference between the two starters because they both effect the flywheel/flexplate which are basically the same thing. All bolts should line up. All else fails call an autp parts store and see if there are two different types of starters for the two different models.

While starter motors differ for automatic vs. manual transmissions in many Honda/Acura models, all USDM '84-91 Civics use the same starter motor application, regardless of transmission. There are two different OE manufacturers for this application - Denso and Mitsuba. While the starters from each OEM appear externally different, the bolt pattern and function is the same so they are interchangeable.

I know this because I've personally installed both brands of this particular starter on various models of '84-91 Civics with either transmission. It will work.

Nope; everything lines right up.

What experience do you have? My shop services over 70 Honda and Acura cars per week and we've specialized in Hondas exclusively since 1980.

For the USDM, all '84-91 Civics can use the same starter regardless of transmission. Newer Civics use different starters for automatic vs. manual.

For the USDM, all '90-93 Integras use the same starter regardless of transmission. '94+ Integra models used a different starter for automatic vs. manual.

I took a starter off of a 1989 DX hatchback with an automatic, and put it on my 1991 civic STD model with a 1988 tranny and flywheel. The old starter was a direct drive, and this new one is a gear reduction(the two different options for the ef civics) and it works fine.
