Ok so when i go in my car and turn on the AC my car idle drops to 500 when set to level 4. when i drive my car feels as if it is sluggish as if it doesn't want to pull like it would do when the ac is off. I tried adjusting the idle from the throttle body and it still doesn't help much. Help Please!

 

think of it as a weight and balance senario. our little 4cyls have to not only move our cars but the also have to drive accesories. every accesory takes horsepower away to operate them. and an AC compressor is a big load. it has to compress a gas. now if ur engine is not running in a decent order as in maintainence wise yes ur car will idle low but true idle for the civics are 650 +or- 50 rpm

 

so is there anything i can do to get the idle up or no.

 

Don't turn on the a/c?

 

come on man this is south FL. Is anyone going through with the same problem or does anyone have a solution.

 

It happens like the guy above said natural idle is just under 700 and when turning on the a/c it takes power off of the crank, thus putting your car under load. There is no fixing this, just turn it off or deal with the loss. Any car with a/c does this it's not a problem.

Could be a problem with the input signal to the ecu, various sensors send a signal to the ecu when they are switched on so the ecu can compensate for the load by adjusting the iac valve so the idle remains steady. these include the psp switch(power steering pressure switch) and ac switch.

 

Its normal. A/C takes power from the motor.
