Default Question: Shifting from 2nd to 3rd

Hey guys,

I noticed in the transmission fluid thread that a lot of people see to feel shifting from 2nd to 3rd is a little rough. Is this just a general characteristic of a stock ITR transmission?

Thanks!

From my experience I'd say so, but what do you mean by rough? For my R, if I shift from 2nd to 3rd in a high RPM without letting it go in slow and easy, it'll grind.

Hmm, I don't have any of these issues. Sounds like your syncro's are too worn or your shifting isn't very good. The Syncro's purpose is to speed up or slow down the mainshaft to match the countershafts speed. If the syncro's are worn they can't do this quickly, or you're are not matching your re-engagement point good enough when the rpm's drop.

How many miles do you have on your tranny?

I had this issue with my first ITR but this latest one I own is very smooth. I think it's a result of overzealous driving. If you're concerned just leave it neutral for a split second before you engage third.
