help! f22b cylinder head on h23a!!
so I just picked up my 7th honda lol. I grabbed up a 95 prelude si with a jdm h23a replacement motor in it. it slipped the Tbelt and bent some valves. so the only cylinder head I found locally is an f22b dohc head from the junk yard. I pulled the head off today and it essentially looks identical to an h23 head. and I have been told it will work on my h23, but will it change my compression ratio?? and is the cam profiles different from the two motors?? if you can help I would appreciate it -thanks
well I'm all googled out.. and I cant find anything on any of the forums(including the mighty **********, that covers this interchange.. I've worked my way thru all the d-series interchanges and b-series over the years.. but I seriously have no idea what is an operational interchange in this situation. might just have to take them to my machinist for a volumetric and measurement comparison tomorrow
Just to verify:
Are you talking about the H23A VTEC (bluetop) motor out of the Accord Wagon SiR?
Or are you talking about the H23A non-VTEC (blacktop) out of the Ascot Innova?

well the parts weren't anywhere near in front of me, the salvage yard is about 2hrs away. and thats where the head was, and my head was still conected to the motor. but yes I'm talking about the h23a non vtec, and the f22b non vtec. I ripped my head off today and drove across the border again to the salvage yard. the head gaskets matched up perfect, and the head bolt depths all measured the same.. so in my opinion it should work.... I hope lol. I was hoping for some solid interchange info, but I dont think many people really mess with the f22b dohc often enough to have interchange knowledge about it. the zealautowerks compression calculator doesn't even cover it, I hope my compression isn't lowered....

so I found some differences.. the combustion chamber design is alot different, the f22b is a plain round design. and the h23a combustion chamber is kinda figure 8 looking chamber, the h23 would make more compression than the f22. I think I'll be rebuilding the 23 head.. anybody know where I can find exhaust valves for a good price????
