B16 CRX Suspension Problems x2 Help me out
So I have a 91 si with a obd0 swap with a y1 trans. I am using the halfshaft and axles that came with it that are supposed to be 'b16 crx swap axles'....
Anyway, I have two problems
1- Something feels loose like the halfshaft or axles are wrong ... it feels like the middle of the car ..........which I believe leads to....
2- Something makes a loud clanking noise when I make turns at lights or stop signs (not just switching lanes for example)
So my question is what could be causing these two problems and should I just junk my halfshaft and axles cause I am reading everywhere I should just go with 90-91 da integra halfshaft and axles (from a manual cable trans of course)
Any help or advice is appreciated!

my trans does have lsd. However, its not welded lsd like a drag car.... its oem. So that shouldnt cause the noise. Can an EF/CRX B series expert chime in
all the b series ef's ive done, ive used DA halfshaft and axles, not saying its gonna fix your problem, but its definitley somethin i would try.

Take the dust rings out if they are still on there. Also check to make sure everything is tight on the front end. Axles could be shot as well. They can make all kinds of noises when they go bad. Just go to an open parking lot and do figure 8s till you can feel where its coming from.
The oem Y1 tranny is ok, but the half shaft it uses is wack, i would never bother with it because of it's weird offset size.....any 90-93 usdm shaft would be better matched
Its not the LSD thats making the noise, thats all I am trying to say. Like Deetz said (I heard) that Y1 trans were wierd with the halfshaft and all, I just didnt know if I should use a DA or not. I am going to the junkyard this weekend and try to get 90-91 da halfshaft and axles
so I picked up a halfshaft from a 91 integra gs. I just bought refurbished axles for a 91 integra gs from advance auto parts but one is longer than the other. The axles I took out were the same length. My question is which axle is which? what side does the the longer axle go on and what side does the shorter axle go?
the other one on top is the driver side axle ( that end goes into the mid shaft )
the one on the bottom is your passenger side axle( this end goes into the tranny )

the clunking is because Y1 trannys have clutch-type LSDs. the clunking you are hearing is the clutches in the LSD slipping. all you need to do is drain the trans fluid out, and refill it with Pennzoil Synchromesh. my Y1 did the same thing. ever since i used synchromesh it doesnt clunk anymore. you will still feel it slip but it wont be nearly as bad as before. i know it sounds crazy, but theyre supposed to do that. clutch type LSDs are much more aggressive and lock much quicker than helical type LSDs.

can anyone confirm this?
i can. because with clutch-type LSDs you have to use a friction modifier with your trans fluid or else the clutches in the LSD will not lock correctly. Pennzoil Synchromesh already has a friction modifier in it. i have tried many different types of trans fluid and the only one that has worked correctly and stopped the clunking is Pennzoil Synchromesh. i always used to use Castrol Syntec 5W40 in my D series non-LSD trans before. i tried using the same Castrol Syntec 5W40 with Trans-X friction modifier and it did nothing. then tried Klotz manual trans fluid which also had a friction modifier in it and still the differential clunked like crazy. then changed to Pennzoil Synchromesh and it doesnt clunk at all when its warmed up. it clunks once or twice right after startup before the trans actually warms up. i would recommend it to anybody using a clutch type LSD regardless of what kind of car its in.

well I put the DA halfshaft and new DA axles in, pull out of my driveway....and same sound immediately happened. I just got done putting the syncromesh in and I am about to take it for a ride and will update later
