Default OT: F50 GT1 ... sweet car. period

okay, as i understand it, these cars were solely made for the purpose that they would run in the 24 hours of le mans. BUT, ferrari scrapped the idea. there were 3-6 made in the world.

i searched and made sure the videos were never posted in the ITR board, but if you search around on the members board you woulda been able to find the link to get to these videos. just thought i'd host/share them as well. they're awesome, the car sounds awesome. i want one.

some car specs

4.7l V12 60 valves N/A
4700 cc's
750 hp@ 10500 rpms
383 tq
top speed- 236mph
0-60- 2.9secs
2000 lbs

There were only 3 made. 1 went to a private collector in Sf and the other in Japan. The third was sold from a beverly hills car dealer. Each private buyer signed a licensed agreement with Ferrari stating that they would never enter these cars in a competition.

507.3 NW = 373.8 lbs of torque
38kgm = 274.8 lbs of torque

what gives there??

heres my source

383lb/ft out of 4.7 liters sounds reasonable to me.

Its a race motor hooptie157. Not much torque required. (do you ever plan on really stopping in a race?) I bet that thing has a very high redline

That right there is the gayesy of the gay. Id have my lawyers all over that agreement so I could race that thing. What the hell is the point of having a racecar if you cant race it?

so you don't crash it. Ferrari knows that most of the people that drive their cars have no idea what an apex is.

I would take that car to open lapping days...but never wheel-to-wheel racing. If some jackass dove to the inside and tried to use your F50 GT1 to help his turn-in, you'd never forgive yourself for causing damage to a car like that.

You guys must like racing a car (NOT open track events, but wheel to wheel racing), and have the possibility of body damage where there are no replacement parts of any kind for the vehicle.

one of these showed up to a ferrari meet at sears point raceway a couple years ago, my dad worked there at the time, and has lots of pics. the rear tires were soooooooo wide.
i missed the car on the track, i just saw it in a garage, but my dad told me it went out for some laps with a older ferrari F1 car, and stayed right on its *** the whole time.

Come on Ross... Whats the point of having a racecar if you dont race it? Just to say look at me I have a F50 GT? Thats being a really rich ricer. I dont buy a car to let it sit around. I buy it to drive.

I don't know exactly the reason why they didn't allow the private owner to race it, but I do have some speculations. These cars did cost close to a million dollars a piece. Ferraru NEVER got to race these in the 24 Hours of LeMans because Porsche and Mclaren were scandalous and found a loop hole in the rules. Ferrari didn't even bother putting their car against theirs which strictly adhered to the rules, because it was a totally different class now.

Would they want YOU to make money off their car which they couldn't do? Probably not. Would they want YOU to crash their car? Probably not. It's one of their pinnacle cars, i am SURE they not like to see it ruined. I don't know, but I'd still sure like to own the car even if I couldn't race it. I'd be taking it to every track event possible. And yes, I would like to just say "I own an F50 GT1", but i'd still drive it. On a side note, the last F50 GT1 went to a guy in ?new orleans? I think, and when his car arrived , he immediately put it on Willow Springs(the car was sold out of a beverly hills dealer) and invited Ferrari's #1 endurance driver to test it against the base model F50(hehe base). The base F50 produced consistent lap times that were 2 seconds slower. Sidenote- F50's were sold only on a 2 year lease, and then you had the option of buying it.
