Hey I have a head off a B16A3 usdm 94 Del Sol VTEC and I'm wondering what these numbers and markings mean. Thanks.

(9|3) = 1993 the year the head was cast
(0|9) = September

I have never found out what the other two meant, as well as the Roman numerals, maybe someone else knows.

PR3 = Type of head design. B16A3 in this case.
HM I aways assumed meant Honda Motor Co.

The far right two circles could mean what country and plant they were produced in.

Edit: I say this, because my foreign produced '91 Wrangler head did the same thing.

^. It's basically what Honda tells me ALL THE TIME I CALL. They can never give me the right bolt sizes because they don't get access to those schematics.

They have the diagrams, with every part/assembly numbered. Trust me, they do.

And stop trying to get bolts from the dealer
Get them from a salvage yard or something.

On topic: I've got nothing...

I'm not buying them from them, I call them to get the bolt SPECS. The Honda graveyard I live by pulls the engines and trannys the minute the junkers roll in and then the bolts are almost never seen from again. I call in to Honda for bolt specs and go up and buy the bolts from AZ and such. But they always tell me Honda won't let them see the full bolt specs and it pisses me off!

Sorry, my bad. You were talking about schematics and bolt sizes and I got confused.

SPECS? What do you mean?

On topic: Still nothing.

SPECS? What do you mean?
Pitch, head size, length.

And on topic as well: still on the idea that it's the plant that produced it.

Roman numerals could mean number of times inspected before leaving plant?

Honda doesn't have every bolt listed with specs. They have part numbers. That's about all.

Your job is to find the part number (easy online) and then look in the awesome thread I made about reading part numbers to get bolt specs that no one seems to know about.

Look here:
https://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/make-up-part-numbers-2048988/

Few people at Honda probably know about reading part numbers like that too. I managed to find it in an old Honda manual that most dealerships have tossed out by now.

woo hooooooo... offtopic ftmfw.

thanks for the information on bolts sizes, this clears up a lot of confusion I'm sure I'd encounter some day. When I was thinking about bolt sizes.

But right now I'm thinking about head. Head and my head, and the markings on my head, as well as head. Is 2am too late for a booty call? Erm, i mean a call to honda international to be told they don't have access to those schematics.

Wait hold up, hold up. Can you actually CALL honda? Is it like a switchboard or somethin or is it some asian dude who just knows a lot about hondas? Maybe he knows where I could get head.....

BUMP.

As far as the PR3 head stampings....."ALL" PR3 heads were the same casting during that production date! So I don't really know what you hope to accomplish with any extra info.

I think the only difference that can be noted are the jdm spec "automatic" heads. They had weaker cams and single valve springs on both intake and exhaust valves.

You can call the American Honda Help Line. Probably won't be of much help for tech though.

1-800-999-1009

When I called there was a nice lady on the other end. Don't remember what my question was but she wasn't of any help. Polite though.

I hope to accomplish.... knowing everything there is to know about this car I am building with my hands from scratch.

So I can know exactly where in the world my head was cast, when it was made....

mental masturbation ftw, but i'm still curious.

anyone else... bummmmmp.

I'll ring up that number when I borrow a friend's phone. Damn prepaid minutes are expensive.
