Icon2 Fuel Problem.. ?

89' wagovan
dpfi to mpfi conv
D16A6

car ran fine for months after the swap. Boneheaded brother didn't know how to check the oil, and added 2 extra qts of oil. Well needless to say, oil got up onto the pugs fouling the plugs.Did an oil change and added new plus.

Tried to fire up the car and I have timming, spark and there is fuel going threw the fuel rail. But won't kick over. Motor sounds stong when cranking.
Check to make sure all 4 injectors where getting power/current and they are.

When I spray starter fluid threw the TB, the car fires and will run,as long as I'm spraying starterfluid.

Could this just happen to be something completley unrealated to over filling the pan with oil?
Maybe just bad luck and now I have a fuelpump going out?

What am I over looking here?

if the injectors have power then the only other issue i can think of is they must not be getting good ground from the ecu. that would be what tells them to fire.

Can you hear the pump prime when you turn the key to the 1st position?

Are you getting fuel at the rail? You can pull the fuel return line after the FPR and place a rag below to catch the fuel and see this from the driver seat. Turn the key only to the 1st position.

I'll double check the grounds today

I'm thinking the same thing and pull the plug after a few cranks and smell them for fuel...

Other thing to check is open your distr. and see if the rotor screw is present.

I just finished pulling my hair out over this. D16A6 dies on the highway, cranks ok motor sounds good, backfire but wont catch.

Had fuel, AND spark but no start I was like WTF - over?

I opened the distr. to check ignitor and coil and the rotor slides off - NO SCREW INSIDE and the distr. is sealed and there is nowhere for that screw to go!

It was running ok prior to the breakdown but it seemed like the timing was set high but I could never get it set with a timing light. Always pinged on hard throttle - but ran ok and still got me 34mpg average. <3 hondas lol

I was thinking about this 1 today @ work. If I add starter fluid/ brake cleaner threw the trottlebody, the car will start and run. As long as I keep srpaying cleaner.

On my D16A6 it has the crank angle sensor for the injector timing in the dizzy as well as the sensor for the ignition. It went ballistic before and had to change dizzy to correct problem.

Maybe it's not getting a strobe signal for injectors to computer. On that motor I don't know where that signal comes from. It's probably a separate signal than the ignition uses. Check wiring and connections. Grounds. Fuses.

Do you have a service manual for it?

Codes?

I also lost rotor set screw once going about 70 on the freeway at night - what fun! Instantly fried cat - sparks were shooting out the tail pipe.

I've had the rotor screw be completely loose for 2 months (after i bought the car from the previous owner) worked fine then all of the sudden while going downhill, lost power, car stalls out. I just about **** my pants when this happened cause the engine had bad wall linings so I figured it was the last end of the straw for the engine and was already having a bad day so I jsut about went ballistic. Stupid $7 screw was all it was, thank god all my problems for this car so far have been stupid easy to fix problems.

if you don't hear priming, I'd guess your problem would be the main relay (under the dash)

as for my brothers wagon. Still nothing. Cranks, spark, fuel.. wont run

So it will crank but not start and there is fuel after the rail?

Can you measure the resistance of each injector and post the values?

I think there is a test for the resistor box also and I will post that when I get home.

If you have access to another resistor box or set of injectors, try that and bypass the test above.
