2 Broken Cranks?! WTF
Okay so get this. My brother bought a 92 LX sedan with 170,xxx miles on it in late 2008. His first car, obviously it wasnt a gem, but it had a decent body and the D15B7 engine was running smooth. About 2 months after buying it, he came to me saying he heard a noise coming from the engine and to check it out. Turns out the crank pulley was hitting the block because the crank bolt snapped off inside the crankshaft. I found this odd, but a new bolt and crank key and he was on his way again until 3 weeks later when he called me from the roadside telling me the crank pulley had FALLEN OFF! The crankshaft had broken off inside the crank pulley, bolt and all. Wow... so we swapped it for another D15B7 which had been running fine in a 1993 hatch for 130,000 miles and, again, he was back on his way. About 1000 miles later, he told me it sounded like the TB tensioner bearings were going bad so tonight I went to investigate and discovered the crank pulley is wobbling and off center AGAIN! The same symptoms as before. Now I'm stuck. What could be causing this? Is it common? I dont want to replace the engine again for it to do the same thing. Sorry for the long *** rant but I am out of options right now. Any input is helpful. Thank you, JD
