Has anyone blown up a motor attempting the MPFI swap?
I was curious because I have been hearing about all sorts of problems from people who have attempted the swap on this board. Has anyone had an easy time doing the changeover? If so, what did you do or what steps did you take that where different than the ones that causes a lot of members here so many problems? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am about to start my swap and from everything I have read, the wiring seems easy. I am just scared of blowing up my motor.
contact jdmb18hatch. hes done a few swaps and he can help you. The possibilty of you blowing you engine is very small unless your like really really dumb.

To blow up your motor, you have to really **** up. If you know that little about working on engines, why would you even attempt this conversion. Just common sence.
if u do everything correct ur not gonna blow it up...mine has ran fine off and on of course do to stupidity for over a year...i made a whole post how to do this....get a june issue of SCC and they have a hybrid how to and u to can have multi point fuel injection....if u dont have this issue....then do a search ull find some directions...edit i am jdmb18hatch changed name a week ago....i can help if search comes up dry

The people that have accually blown engines did so by not getting new intake manifold gaskets, or not tightening the manifold properly, coolant gets into cylinder #1 and causes havoc.
I had a few problems with my swap, but they were all caused by either bad parts from ebay, or my rushing things (
to me)
Just take your time, keep everything clean, use new gaskets, and double check your work (have a friend double check it if you can) and you should do fine!

Thanks guys, I have everything except the distributor. It's been a real pain finding one still in one piece at the yards. I pulled just about everything I need off of a 91 civic ex. I just hope the sensors are okay. The car showed up there about 3 weeks ago and there was a really bad rain. when I pulled the manifold, water came out, but i dried it out. I don't beleive this will f##k up sensors but who knows?
make sure u buy new gaskets for TB and Itake maifold if u dont buy the intake one thats how ull run into problems today i swapped back to a d16a6 intake mani and thought id go cheap but it ended up leaking into #4 cyl....high idle from a slight leak but thats fixed...sensors from ur d15 will work also if they dont...but i have has water logged parts before and they were fine...
a little water shouldn't hurt your sensors, and as for a complete distributor, here's a list of dizzy parts that you can use off of your old one:
cap
rotor
coil
Ignitor
Accually, If I were to do this over again, I would replace those 4 parts before doing the swap anyway, the dizzy i got for my swap ended up having a bad ignitor and it gave me a bunch of headaches before I figured it out
there was a guy a couple of months ago that was selling brand new Si distributors on Ebay for something like $125.00, it's expensive, but it is peace of mind.

Whaty is the gasket made off? And how long does it take to seal? I know I sound paranoid, but I want to do this the right way, the first time. So I can just swap over pieces from my dizzy to the one missing parts? I have a new dizzy on there right now.
u have a service maual??? get one if u dont.... its made of paper at least the 92 si one is for tha z6....it seals fine follow directions in service manual
I have a chlitons and haynes book for my car. I think one or the other will help me out, unless someone has the allmighty helms manual and can post a pic? hint
How much torque is required to torque down the bolts on the manifold? Plus Would you guys recommend using a dizzy from the junkyard that's missing the ignitor and coil? There are two there in the exact same condition, but one still has the coil on it and it looks like it got burned or melted somehow. I think ill stay away from that one
yeh the ecu needs a crank angle sensor or yeh i think thats why u need a si dizzy...or cyl position sensor???oh well u need a si or hf distibuter
