Default Sport-Shift light flashing speedo at 0

1991 Accord EX - The sport-shift light is flashing and the speedometer reads 0. Shut the car off and it didn't come back on. The next day same thing after about 15 miles did it again, pulled over shut car off and re-started. No problems, no flashing light speedo working. 15 more miles to work, 30 miles back home and it didn't do it again.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is. Book say to take it to your Honda dealer as soon as possible... yea right, not when I can check here.

Thanks,
Michael

I'm pretty sure it's like the check engine light but for the tranny. It may have been over-heating or something. Maybe somebody else can help you little more but I really think there's too many variables to say without actually looking at it.

your speed sensor on the trans is about to go. very easy to fix yourself/ only 2 bolts hold it in.

So, any problem with driving it like that? It will not leave me stranded will it.

Today the speedo dropped to zero, came back up, dropped to zero, came back up, dropped to zero a third time and then the CEL came on and then the blinking Sport-Shift light. Stopped car, restarted and drove back home with no further problems. Car runs just fine when it is doing this so I am guessing that I am not hurting anything to drive it? Any other systems that depend on this that I would be messing up if I do not fix it right away?

Thanks,
Michael
