1999 Integra GSR Disc Brakes onto 1993 Civic EX Coupe HAVE QUESTIONS!! HELP!!
Ok, so i'm looking for some people who have done the swap successfully. I recently bought a totaled 1999 Acura Integra GSR Shell, it has 4-wheel disc brakes (obviously) with ABS. I have a 1993 Honda Civic EX Coupe WITHOUT ABS.
I am interested in trying to swap the entire brake setup but i've got a few things i need cleared up as to what i NEED to swap over in order to do this successfully and correctly.
Now here are the questions:
1. Will the ABS Proportioning Valve work on my civic without ABS? or do I need to obtain a proportioning valve off of a NON ABS Disc Brake car?
2. Do i need to swap out the Front spindles, Upper Control Arms, and Hubs in order to get the rotors and calipers to fit and work correctly?
3. If I need to use the integra spindles, Are the Hubs interchangable from the Civic and Integra? ( I ask because i've got extended wheel studs on my civic that i need to keep)
4. I need to swap out the Brake Booster and Mater Cylinder from the Integra to Civic Correct?
5. Are there any Tips/Tricks I should know before taking on the project?
I have searched, and read the FAQ's however they are all older and have no pictures, I couldnt find anything that answered my questions directly (except #4 i'm just double checking with that one) So anyone who KNOWS the answers to any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

B16Civic93,
the knuckles your 93 civic EX are nearly identical to the 94-00 integra front brakes
(both have the same sized calipers & 10.3" rotors).
if you had a "non EX" civic, i would recommend this swap, but in your case,
you're not upgrading but simply swapping the front knuckle out for another of equal dimensions.
your EX's m/c is 15/16" and most 94-00 integra are 1". if you examine the master cylinder's on both cars, they're nearly identical.
the only worthwhile swap would be to drop your EX's rear drums for the donor integra's rear disks.
1. Will the ABS Proportioning Valve work on my civic without ABS? or do I need to obtain a proportioning valve off of a NON ABS Disc Brake car?
no ABS valve prop won't work, you'll need to source one from a non-ABS rear disk
(ie., crx Si, EF civic Si, 92-95 civic Si, del sol Si, 94-00 integra RS).
i've personally run rear discs on a drum prop & it worked fine.
keep in mind, most the braking is done with your front brakes
2. Do i need to swap out the Front spindles, Upper Control Arms, and Hubs in order to get the rotors and calipers to fit and work correctly?
your EX & 99 teg's parts will interchange
(you can use teg calipers on your EX knuckles, etc),
they share the same 10.3" 4x100 front rotor
3. If I need to use the integra spindles, Are the Hubs interchangable from the Civic and Integra? ( I ask because i've got extended wheel studs on my civic that i need to keep)
integra & EX are interchangeable
4. I need to swap out the Brake Booster and Mater Cylinder from the Integra to Civic Correct?
no, you can keep your EX m/c
5. Are there any Tips/Tricks I should know before taking on the project?
here's a video that's help me in the past;
it's a "how to seperate the ball joint" if you decide to swap knuckles.
it's a pain free method of removing a honda lower ball joint
using a craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet placed between the hub and lower control arm

Thank you for the thorough reply, it is much appreciated. With what you said and after very close examination of both cars/suspension/brake setups i think i will just swap out the rear brakes, prop valve, master cylinder and booster. Keep the front brakes the same.
I was told by some people and after doing some reading that if i were to swap out the rear brakes and keep the same mc/booster that the pedal feel will still be the same and wont tighten up.
My girl has a gsr and the pedal feels much more firm in that compared to my civic and other civics that friends have.
I've removed ball joints before but usually with the fork and you usually end up spliting your damn ball joint boots using that, so i'll have to try that method.
Thanks again for the reply.,

The brake pedal feel can be the result of a lot of different problems. I would check for worn brake hardware (flexing or damaged fluid lines, severely worn shoes and/or pads, bad MC inner seals, etc.).
I have rear discs on my 94 EX from a 95 Si hatch. Aside from what I removed from the Si, I only had to buy new pads, rotors, and emergency brake cables (the hatch cables are too short).
I used the stock MC and Proportioning valve and have had no issues or complaints.

What i was talking about with the pedal feel was that in my civic with the stock brake system the pedal feels softer then in my girl's integra with stock brakes.. the pads and shoes are relatively new.. the master cylinder was replaced like 2 years ago, the rubber lines may be worn, so i'll check them.
I havnt started the swap yet, i still need to get a prop valve, i gotta hit the junkyard tomorrow or monday and see what i can find.. thanks for all the help
