Ok, after driving and coming to a stop light or stop sign white smoke comes out of the exhaust for about 3 minutes. Also when i step on it in 1 and 2 gear white smoke comes out. what could that be. It's not a blown head gasket because white smoke does not come out of the exhaust when started up. HELP PLEASE!!

 

Well it does not need to smoke at start up. Have you checked the oil to see if it is milky?
Have you done compression tests? Check these things then get back to us.

 

when you say milky you mean when the oil easily drips off the dipstick.

No, exactly what it sounds like. Like a light brown milky color, not translucent like anti-freeze is in it.

it smells like oil and it does not have a milky look in the oil.

 

here are a few suggestions to look for

could be the valve seals on the exhaust valves letting the oil seep down into the exhaust ports on the head which will smoke white instead of blue like most people associate with burning oil

blue smoke is usually when it gets mixed with gasoline in the combustion chambers

also maybe a cracked ring(s) on the pistons

these are both examples of prior experiences i've had years ago while building my first engine, now with quite a few years of experience and various engines i've built i've got the problem fixed

the only other suggestion I have that I doubt is your problem would be if your car is turbo, but since you didn't state it, I assume it's NA, but anyhow a leaking hotside of the turbo will make white smoke too

 

also could it have anything to do with the intake manifold gasket cause i read from someone who had the same issue and he said it was the manifold gasket.

 

not if it smells like oil. if it was the intake gasket it would smell like antifreeze

 

i don't know. so i will try to drive it today and check the smell again to make sure it is oil or antifreeze. also i see that when the guy that did the engine swap for me, he put some red residue over the intake gasket as if he wanted to seal it. should i worry about that or just leave it.

 

sounds like possibly the piston rings.... first perform a compression test

are you getting blowby out of the crankcase? pull out your dipstick or the oil filler cap and see if there is smoke coming out then while the engine is running

 

i remembered when my car would get to a low idle i would hear chucking noise coming from my exhaust. is this a problem that could occur.

 

my car is doing the exact same right now.. i think its my piston rings that went and my car feels alittle sluggish when i drive it..

 

Pistion rings or a valve sealing problem, do a compression test and that should tell you alot.
