97 civic dx intake manifold question
ok so i've got a 97 civic dx where the throttle body faces up towards the hood. is it possible to convert it to use the ex manifold? i know theres gonna have to be some modification....but 2 be honest i have no clue how to go about doing it...so if anyones got some info i'd appreciate it! thanks!

it helps to find pics of both the Y7 and Y8 in stock form to compare. it also helps to have a good service/repair manual. if you don't have experience doing this type of thing you need one
a few notes: 99-00 D16Y8 (EX) manifolds have small air injection ports that must be plugged to work. if you can get a 96-98 manifold that's one less step.
the D16Y5 (HX) manifold is very similar to the Y8 but it has an EGR valve and associated passages. better than the Y7 but again more hassle than 96-98 Y8.
you will need to swap the throttle rotor from the Y8 TB onto the Y7 TB or use an auto Y8 manifold and TB together. the manual Y8 has a 2-pin IACV, the Y7 and auto Y8 have TB mounted 3-pin IACVs and work seamlessly with your stock ECU.
your Y7 injectors and fuel rail fit just fine and work well with the Y8 manifold. if you have plans for more power adders later the Y8 injectors flow more so they would be ideal... just not necessary to get you running.
i've been running this way for 80,000 miles now without issue. mid-range torque is where you should notice it most.

yes get a manual ex manifold, and make sure it's from 96-98. 99-00 have the air injection crap
edit: ok for some reason it's blocking out the website so i had to add the forward slash for it to not block it out.

what you're working around here is the Idle Air Control Valve. the manual Y8 has a 2-pin IACV mounted to the plenum (large part of manifold adjacent to the TB) but the Y7 and auto Y8 have a 3-pin on the TB.
you're Y7 ECU won't work with the 2-pin from a manual Y8.
so, yes you can use the Y8 throttle body, but you must also use the Y8 ECU and change 1 or 2 wires around. otherwise use the Y8 auto TB (or Y7 with Y8 throttle rotor).
Hey man. I've done this swap a couple of time. This is a really good write up, it tells you exactly what to buy and how to do the swap.

Also, get pictures of both like hondamark said. Good luck, it isn't too hard!

ok so I know this is old an old post but due to money issues since I posted it and lack of interest I haven't completed this project. Though today I finally bought a manifold! lol. ok now I was just inspecting it and I need to verify a few things. Here are the pics of it. Now I was told that his was off a 98 civic ex 5spd. Though it looks as if the TB is from an Auto. The two sensors on top and side of the TB are 3pin. If I am correct I won't need to modify this to get it to work or swap the Throttle rotor...am I correct? Thanks again guys! I promise I'll get this put on soon.
