Tranny/clutch bearings going bad...how extensive is this?
I have a 97 Civic EX with 106k on the odo w/the original clutch. There's a buzzing sound like a bad bearing whenever the engine load drops rapidly (disengaging the clutch during a shift above 3k rpm, for example). The buzzing sound is also present -but much much less pronounced - when I let off the throttle on the freeway when the engine is running above 3k rpm.
So my question is whether this is just in the clutch (pilot and throwout bearing) or is it likely that the bearings in the tranny are about to go? I'm gonna go ahead and replace the clutch, but am wondering if the tranny needs new bearings as well?
The engine and tranny are otherwise fine...no trouble shifting and no clutch slip. Thanks for the help!

I also get the wacked buzzing noise. Im not sure what it is but i need to get my clutch in and see if thats the problem. Good luck.

your should always replace the pilot and throw out bearings when doing a clutch job. The sound is usually a result of t/o bearing and lack of grease, sometimes could be stock clutch springs are loose and sound too.
