Default b16a2 advice.

I had leaking valve seals in my b16a2, I took the head off the motor and took it to my local machine shop and they cleaned, checked for any warpage(there was none), and replaced with viton seals.

Got a new headgasket from ebay, put the head on reusing the old head bolts, assembled everything per hondas manual including following the multiple torque sequence.

Start it up, set timing, bleed coolant and check for any oil leaks, Which I did not see, took it for a drive, about 20 miles and started seeing some white smoke and then it turned to blue, not heavy and only happened in lower gears under heavier acceleration.

Popped the hood and oil was coming from headgasket around timing belt side and back of head, and it used 1qt of oil on this drive. I was told that the headgasket was put on upside down. So I took it back apart and the headgasket looked correct but I switched it any way, and that was definatly wrong, oil came out like a fire hose as soon as it was started.

Any ideas on the issue?

Crap gasket, Shouldn't have reused head bolts?

Also the headgasket did not leak at all before the head and gasket was redone.

simple fix probably.

could be upside down headgasket causing oil to leak >.< durrrrrr....

could be re-using old head gasket - every time you pull the head you have to get a new gasket. as per manufacturer specs.

machine shop could have damaged the head, cracked it, put a groove in it or something..

pull the head, check for any metal particulate around the mating surfaces, use a gasket scraper to clean both sides (block/head) and use a light solvent to clean any residues.

reinstall head with new gasket, torque to specs in the right order, put a wrench on the crank and turn the motor over to make sure everyhing is in the right place. (shouldn't take much effor.)

start it up and hope for the best.

i dunno how bolts could randomly 'go bad' but if you decked the head/block, you may have taken lots of metal off and created a gap that shouldn't be there. a decent machine shop shouldn't do this.

and btw, FVCK EGAY GASKETS.

for something like a headgasket, i don't think ebay brand is the best way to go lol. but NEVER RE-USE a headgasket. They are one-time use lol. also dd u set mechanical timing correctly? are the cam seals leaking? also what about the valve cover gasket.

Wasn't upside down except second time when I told it was and then flipped it

brand new gasket used once and then flipped
machine shop could have damaged the head, cracked it, put a groove in it or something..
very possible I will have to have them recheck it
pull the head, check for any metal particulate around the mating surfaces, use a gasket scraper to clean both sides (block/head) and use a light solvent to clean any residues.
will do
reinstall head with new gasket, torque to specs in the right order, put a wrench on the crank and turn the motor over to make sure everyhing is in the right place. (shouldn't take much effor.)
will do again but with a oem gasket
start it up and hope for the best.

nothing was shaved since they said everything was in spec
and btw, FVCK EGAY GASKETS.
Thanks for the reply btw.

You can not, under any situation reuse a head gasket, it gets pinched the instant you tighten the 1st head bolt....that is your problem

Thanks again, I am going to get an oem headgasket and also I am going to take the head to another machine shop to see if they can check it to make sure the first shop didn't make any mistakes.

excellent plan. i stress, clean the mating surfaces between head and block. any tiny metallic particulate would cause oil leak. good luck.
