Need Help (5th gen) removing pocket underneath radio...
Does anyone know how to remove the pocket underneath the radio in the 5th gen prelude?? I am trying to install a VAFC but i need to remove that pocket in order to modify it a bit so that the vafc will fit snug... it would be much easier to do with the part outside of the car.. can anyone help? thanks in advance...
you have to remove that whole piece in including your stereo then there are some screw inside i think one on top of that "pocket"
Thanks... i honestly dont even know where to start.. guess i am going to have to sit in the car and figure it out... i was hoping someone could point me in a direction on how to get the ball rolling... what screws do i need to remove? where should i start? how not to break it... etc etc... i guess after a six pack and some brainstorming i can figure out where to start.. does anyone else have any suggestions??

The plastic trim panel has several clip-release them and the panel comes off. You will then see all of the mounting screws and the ones for the pocket come out the front only. Do not remove anything else-just the trim and pocket-then reinstall trim. BE VERY CAREFUL taking it off the plastic is somewhat soft.
Thank you very much.... going to work on it today.. thanks to you also RY8127... I will be sure to keep you posted on how this install goes.. the helms manual would help me a bunch... anyhow, so far i have finished the modifications, just want to remove the pocket from the car now so that i can be sure everything fits properly.. so far the VAFC looks great...
Hey lordvtec you look how to properly remove the plastic cover by looking at this link and then click view installation instruction for carbon fiber/wood trim kit.

after you remove that cover just unscrew the screws holding the radio and pocket in and pull the unit out. As you're pulling it out watch for the harness connecting to the radio, it can be disconnected. Then just take about the unit and put in the new unit. should be pretty easy.
Sorry, can't get you pic of the helms manual.
