Default Need Help (5th gen) removing pocket underneath radio...

Does anyone know how to remove the pocket underneath the radio in the 5th gen prelude?? I am trying to install a VAFC but i need to remove that pocket in order to modify it a bit so that the vafc will fit snug... it would be much easier to do with the part outside of the car.. can anyone help? thanks in advance...

Thanks... i honestly dont even know where to start.. guess i am going to have to sit in the car and figure it out... i was hoping someone could point me in a direction on how to get the ball rolling... what screws do i need to remove? where should i start? how not to break it... etc etc... i guess after a six pack and some brainstorming i can figure out where to start.. does anyone else have any suggestions??

The plastic trim panel has several clip-release them and the panel comes off. You will then see all of the mounting screws and the ones for the pocket come out the front only. Do not remove anything else-just the trim and pocket-then reinstall trim. BE VERY CAREFUL taking it off the plastic is somewhat soft.

Hey lordvtec you look how to properly remove the plastic cover by looking at this link and then click view installation instruction for carbon fiber/wood trim kit.
http://www.handaaccessories.com/preint.html
after you remove that cover just unscrew the screws holding the radio and pocket in and pull the unit out. As you're pulling it out watch for the harness connecting to the radio, it can be disconnected. Then just take about the unit and put in the new unit. should be pretty easy.
Sorry, can't get you pic of the helms manual.

Thanks man, but after my last post i decided to go outside and get my hands dirty, mission accomplished.. i was able to replace it, modify it slightly, and install the VAFC.. looks great, almost looks like it came like that from factory.. just took a little time, patience, (your wonderful idea), and a handy dremel... thanks again RY8127! here's to you!! I will post some pics as soon as i find my digital cam... (then again mine looks just like the other pics you posted in the other thread.. lol) thanks again! - Rob

Well it sounds like you had an interesting time... let me know how things went for you.. (hope they went ok.. post the pics when you can..) i was actually pretty suprised with the way things turned out for me.. things went really well, so well infact that i was able to use the bracket that came with the vafc in order to hold the unit straight and in place... anyhow, i owe it all to you and your idea dude, so if there is any way i can repay the favor let me know... thanks again.
