I couldn't pass up a deal offered to me by Leo at jdmspecperf.com

anyhow i get the pedals in the mail today and look at all of the parts that come with it (4 brackets, and bolts, and of course the pedals). So i get the rubber off both the brake and clutch pedals. That was a breeze. I got the Mugen pedal on fine on the clutch pedal. Now comes to the brake and gas pedal.

I thought the brake pedal would be as easy as the clutch pedal. I get everything tightened up and the actual Mugen pedal is not secure (meaning i could take one finger and push it either way). If i pushed hard enough i could push it all the way off the pedal. The only reason i bought these pedals was to help out my situation with heel-toe shifting. No bling bling factor to me.

So what is with these cheap *** brackets that are so small? It is like you have a few mm to get that bracket over the actual pedal and then tighten down and have it on there straight. Has anyone run into problems like this before? I really do think the parts you use to install these are cheap as hell.

I haven't even started on the gas pedal (how the hell do you get that cover off of it)???

Where are the ITR mugen pedal owners, i know they are on here!

 

mine fit nice and snug...did you get the lil adhesive strips to help keep it from sliding around?
the combo of that and securely fastening all bolts have a good fit.
the throttle pedal just slips off with a lil(lot) of effort...

 

Yeah i would think for $150 pedal kit you would get a pedal that fits SNUG and doesn't move even if you push it HARD. I am so mad about this. Anyone in the central florida region wanna lend a hand some time this weekend?

^ again. i am so aggravated and upset. I don't think i put them in wrong. Why can't they translate some instructions with so many people buying Mugen products? I know they are a Japanese tuner company and what not but still...they sell in the U.S., they should be able to communicate effectively with the buyer!

You did realize that there are two sides to the bracket, right?

The holes on the bracket are offset and obviously you want the part with more metal to go against the pedal assembly...

The clutch and brake are identical, and install identically as long as you lign up the tabs correctly...

hope this helps, i have a suspicion thats what the problem is...

just cos you spent $150 on pedals and dont know how to put them on... there is no need to be bitter with mugen.

 

 

all the parts you have WILL work to mount the mugens on correctly. i thought mine would fit wrong too, but if installed properly, you shouldn't be able to slip them off the pedal assembly, let alone with your finger like you suggested...

stick your head under the dash...get a mirror down there to help you "place" the pedal onto the assembly and center it so there is enough of the metal tab to wedge it tightly on the assembly...in addition to the sticky tape for insurance.

the gas pedal will be of a more trial and error thing as you choose which series of holes mount the pedal securely...you'll see what i mean when you do it.

its a bitch...but its one of the best "performance" upgrades i've done to my r...great investment. you'll be happy to see how well they work under wet conditions and fancy footwork...

 

Thanks Jet for the info. I am going to work on it again in the AM and see what happens. Hopefully i was doing something minor wrong. I plan to go over all of my steps. I just wish the instructions were in English

The stock gas pedal cover is secured by a tab at the top. Just pull that back and the cover should slide down and off.

 

Installing pedals are an absolute bitch... kills my neck and back. Took me hours to fit my momo pedals on. Would probably have been alot easier if i bothered to take off the original rubber on the pedals first. But that big fat chunk behind the accelerator pedal was the worst

 

nope, i am going to wait and have a buddy help me this coming week. I messed up the threads on all 4 of the brackets for the clutch and brake pedals. I just turned the screw that goes in there too hard when i thought i had them on right. Oh well i am goin to have to figure out a ghetto way to do this

not to jump in on your post but...

what are everyone's opinions on aftermarket pedals? bought some racing shoes to assist with heel-toe and they are so small on my feet, that while i have great pedal feel, it is now even harder to get my foot over to the gas when on brake. i need to get some pedals. someone has some mugen pedals for sale but was hoping to get some input on other brands too

 

For easier heel-toeing, the only pedal you really need is a bigger gas pedal. I suggest getting the RAZO RP-42 giant gas pedal (it's less than $20).

 

sounds like you are putting the bolt therough the back side of the bracket. I have not done a pedal install but that would be an easy way to cross thread the brakcets.

Mugen Pedals are clamp on? I thought they were screw on....

At any rate... I wish I had got screw on from the beginning clamps always stretch and move over time (if they don't you're not driving hard enough ) at least my Razo's did... wish I had gotten bolt ons from the start.

i think you should practice heel toe on stock pedals first... seems to me you're not flexible enough ....

I had EXACTLY the same trouble... Those brackets are CHEAP and of less quality...
I used different screws (longer and bigger screws) after working the brackets.
It took me three days of evening work to get the brake pedal on. I removed the whole drivers seat.
But now I have found a position where the upper edge of the brake pedal is moved a little bit to the right, pointing to the acc.pedal. Now it fits tight.
Looks silly but helps great when heel/toeing.

The gas pedal was another story... I had to be VERY violent to remove that plastic because that damned thing was fastened with some kind of adhesive... I finally thougt of using a flex but then I used a big pliers.

Note:
For some people it`s impossible to hell/toe with stock pedals... No chance to reach the brake pedal when touching the gas.
