Default Buddy Club Spec 4 IV Vtec Crossover

Where do you guys have yours set at? I got mine at 6700rpm, we tried from 5200/up and it had a lot of hesitation and seem to loose power from 5.2-6.5k then it pulled hard. At 6700rpm the transition seemed smoother and stronger in the midrange. This was on a street tune with wideband and chrome.

PCT Pistons
Skunk2 Pro Valvetrain and Gears
Skunk Flat Face Valves
Buddy Club Spec 4's
AEM FPR
Skunk2 Catback

P.S. I read this in another thread about high vtec crossover. This is the first i heard of this.

Do not set the VTEC point too high as the high speed cam rocker arm may float on the lost motion assembly, damaging the valve spring retainers. It is not recommended to set the VTEC point over 6500 rpm.

Not sure about the validity of that "no higher than 6500" statement. Please post the author of it.

My cousin is in the same situation with his buddy club IVs. Transition and power was much smoother over 6000 rpms. We kinda don't like it, because it takes away for the lower end torque/midrange we were looking for. But it may be necessary because the non-vtec cam lobe is so large. Hard to say. We're also attempting to smooth things out.

In my 1800cc 12.5 to 1 comp engine Vtec was 6400rpm with my B20 12.5 to 1 comp engine same head and cams and TWM intake manifold the Vtec is at 5800rpm,Spec4 BuddyClub cams worked well and we are very happy with the performance and power we got out of them.

SO when you're saying you had VTEC set at 6400, was that at the high lobe with initial coming in at 5800? or are you saying you went from 5800 to 6400 and saw the improvements? Your comment is confusing considering you mixed your mod list with the changes you made.

1800cc engine Vtec was at 6400rpm
2000cc engine Vtec was at 5800rpm

We changed to a larger bottomend everything else was the same

^^^Understood. that makes more sense. The midrange power seems lacking in these, even though power does go to 9k

Yea, i was expecting more in the midrange. My tuner also said he had to pull timing in the midrange cause of knocking. He said cause of the shitty *** 90oct we got and the high compression of the PCT's. It does pull hard uptop though.
