My speed-o has been jumping around a little bit but once the car warmed up and drove a while it was fine. today on my way to work i was going about 50-55 and next thing i knew the speed-o said 100 and then 120 and it just circled back around to zero and got stuck. hasnt worked since. asked my dad is it the speed sensor or the cluster?

anyway to reposition the needle?

when i start the car its below zero and stays when i shut the car off it drops to almost straight down.

 

It's a common problem. Theres a good chance the culprit is the "VSS". If not, it could even be the plug or wiring that's corroded.

 

x2 on the speed sensor.

 

on my old 4 door, it was the cluster that was bad.

but if its the vss, then you will save a good bit of money over having to replace the speedometer.

 

same crap happend to mine, vss can be cleaned. either remove and clean or leave it in. also slightly bend the 3 tangs towards the lock so it contacts better. use qd electonic cleaner.

 

cleaned the plug and sensor with electronic cleaner works better, hasnt gone over to the underside yet, i do think that i need a new VSS.
