A buddy if mine is selling me his Type R tranny and he is not sure if it is JDM USDM what year ect... as it came in a car he bought. long story short. How do I tell what year and country it came from.

If it's a usdm it should have a vin tag. Other than that I don't think it's possible to figure out a year.

 

if still has the vin tag on it you will know the year too.

For a US VIN the 10th character identifies the model year.
For example:1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y), & 2001(1)

 

If its a JDM ITR transmission, a "J4D" stamp would indicate a 96-spec with the 4.4FD, and a "N3E" stamp would indicate a 98-spec with the 4.78FD.
