Tired Engine
So this may seem obvious, but I figured I'd check. I've got almost 200k on my engine, and it still runs like a champ, most of the time. Recently, it seems to be "running out of breath" in the upper RPM range (5k and above).
Likely causes? Just getting old and tired? Anything I can do?

Maintenance?
Plugs, Wires, Air filter, fluids, clean EGR, etc?
If that doesn't seem to help much you could have it taken apart to see if there is wear on the internals more than expected.

my friend just did the cap and rotors on his accord with 180K on it for the first time......one of he bolts sheard on the distributor cap and the rotor was frozen on the distributor.....took some effort to fix that.....
maybe do some kind of intake/injection system cleaning.
At work, we use a product by a company called BG. It's a 3 part system that requires some special tools to perform. It pretty much cleans the intake system, valves and injectors free of carbon and other deposits. It might be worth going to a dealer and paying the $110 (estimated) to have it done. I know the Honda dealer near me uses BG products. I've seen it work wonders first hand with the 1.8t Volkswagen's, and those things are the biggest POS's when they get up past 100k miles.
Not trying to be a salesman for this product, it's just a thought.
good luck
