d16y7 .. any suggestions on getting more power without swapp?
i have a 97 dx coupe . i want to get more push from my d16 cus i dont have money for a swap ... can i get pointers on thing that i can do to the d16 other then putting turbo ?
y8 head and y8 tranny is your best swap for a low budget. I wouldn't spend too much on a y7 though in my opinion. Keep it stock and save gas! I wish I still had my y7 motor

you won't find much help on that topic here...
there are some other sites with single cam fanatics who would be glad to go into detail about what can be done on a budget with the Y7.
you don't need VTEC and you don't need a turbo to make the Y7 more enjoyable on the road. don't expect to be winning any races (at the track of course
). however you can expect more fun on mountain roads, interstate on ramps, you're daily commute..
my suggestion, Y8 intake manifold (96-98) find one that comes with the injectors (Y8 has "bigger" ones than the Y7), Y8 exhaust manifold (99-00) or a decent header, mandrel bent exhaust from mandrel exhaust systems, a universal flow through muffler.
if you wan't more after all of that is on, try a mild cam (web, bisimoto, exospeed, Delta...) and a tune (chipped ECU and jumper harness). for a deal you can check out Moates.com for a chipping kit if you have good soldering skills.
if you haven't run out of money by this point, find yourself an EX 5spd transmission. that upgrade alone will register well on the butt dyno.
everyone else may think this is a terrible waste of money, but i know first hand it's worth it. it can be pretty rewarding too.
Disclaimer: these modifications work great if the engine is in good working condition already. any signs of neglect over the years need to be addressed first. use good OE quality replacement parts, especially on the ignition system. research; know what exactly you're doing before you do it. don't just take my word for it.

Cant believe no one has mentioned nitrous, best bang for the buck period. Yes a vtec head and especially the y8/z6 tranny would feel so much better. I imagine the head with the ecu would put u up at least 15-20 horses.
would the Y7 stock injectors be enough for nitrous? never looked into it.
because nitrous is illegal and i just don't trust it either.
