Dyno graph - '93 Si D16Z6
While decompressing in Va Beach, I decided to run it through the dyno to get a baseline. I just picked up a 1993 Civic Si with the original engine (D16Z6), and 174K miles.
I was considering a full engine rebuild....but after today, I don't think it's necessary at present. I will do mild bolt-ons eventually (body & suspension work comes first).
I'm hoping to achieve 140-150hp, yet maintain most of this incredible gas mileage I've been achieving. I do plan on SEARCHING
, but any suggestions or comments on how to achieve my HP goal (NA)...much appreciated.

didn't know a stock z6 will be that low on hp and tq to the wheels. I felt pretty fast on my z6. Good luck with your goals.
Intake, Header, Exhaust (2.25-2.5). A tune would free up some power while gaining some mpg would require chipping your ecu.

Even though the engine makes 124 flywheel hp, and 107 flywheel torque, (Stock 125/ 106), I was expecting mid-90's whp. So 108, I was pretty pleased. She can really scoot.
I do miss my bimmer's 224lb/ft everyday, but this car has quite a bit of character. Having owned 2 Japanese cars in the past (MX-6, RX-7)...they were quick to fast, but boring. I have hopes for this car.
Okay, is "chipping" like the Hondata tune? Or something else? Recommendations?
Intake (might try to make my own "Icebox"), or might look at Comptech. I want something that resembles more of a stock look. But I'm open to suggestions.
I agree with the Headers & exhaust. I've narrowed things between an Apexi WS2, Greddy SP2, or Spoon Street Sport. The Spoon is pretty darn pricey, but it has the understated tip size, and muted sound I'm looking for.
108whp is exactly where a healthy Z6 motor should be...that would make it about 15% loss due to the power train. Mid 90s would be more like 25% power train loss, which would be total suckage.
Chipping is when you tell a tuner all about the mods in your motor and they burn a baseline onto a chip for you. You'll have your ECU modified to accept that chip. It's a "best guess" scenario...not not the same as tuning with Hondata.
With Hondata, a Hondata computer is installed in your ECU. The tuner puts your car on a dyno, plugs into the USB port on the Hondata, runs a baseline, tweaks the AFR and possibly messes with your VTEC crossover to maximize your power. Then rinses and repeats until you have as much safe power as possible. If you have a cam gear, they can dial that in as well, but it would be pointless to have it unless you have an aftermarket cam.

At the flywheel...his numbers are correct for wheel horsepower (about 15% drive train loss). Good, healthy motor. Before you go crazy with mods, I'd check your compression. My 285,000 mile D-series had 180 across the board when I swapped it for a B18C1. It found a home in a friend's 4-door.

Thanks for the support, guys. I am pleased the motor is in good working order, but I will get the compression test performed. I have more research to do before modifying the engine safely. But as I alluded to initially, first things first: suspension, then body (rust removal, full respray), brakes and wheels. Hopefully I can have all that KO'd this summer, and ponder the engine in the fall.
Good plan. I did the main cosmetics first (I had a crushed front fender and hood, but no rust to deal with). The cosmetics are ongoing, although I'm very happy with the way my car looks now. Then the suspension, brake upgrades, etc. Finally the engine swap...it was about a year before the engine swap was in. Even then, I was doing upgrades to the engine afterwards.

I have a 92 si hatch, had about 174k miles when I got it (one owner), now has about 211k.
My exhaust recommendation would definitely have to be the WS2. I absolutely love the sound, especially now that a b18c is under the hood. =] Goodluck with your build man, and IMHO save your money for a swap/or turbo the d series... I just don't think you will be as happy in the long run with putting money into building a n/a d16z6. Pz

This gives me a good baseline for my del Sol SI with 239k. Having a local dyno day and I'm just curious as to what a high mileage Honda has left in it.
I must say I'm impressed with the D16z6 also. Fun little car to drive and I avg 35-37 mpg all the time.
Another reason why the lil D series is such a great design for a motor :]
