Well I did some searching and I still seem to have an issue. I've got a 95 ex, auto. PO painted the needles and I'm guessing he took them off. Every one of them worked fine but the speedo. Sometimes it would not work at all, but sometimes it would work fine.

Occasionally it would jump around but if you tapped the case it would go back to normal. I just replaced the whole cluster with a new one about 2 days ago. Everything worked fine on it, speedo worked as it should. It was working fine up until this morning. About 2-3 miles from my house the speedo went dead. I tried tapping the case, turning off car, etc, nothing works.

I checked my vss and there was no water/build-up. I plugged it back in and I do need to still give it a try and see if anything changed. I've got no cel, and all the other gauges/needles are working fine. Hmm?

 

Alright. Test drove it after checking vss. Worked for a sec then died again. Then it would randomly jump then die. Then it just started working fine. Could this be the vss? All other gauges and needles work fine and no cel.

 

i kno on some older cars its not so much a sensor as it is a speedo cable. alot of times they fray or get unwound a bit.

might wanna jsut sell me the car for $50. lol

i would have said ti sounds liek the rubberband that controls the gears of the guages but u said its happend on a few different guages


counds like vss or the actual cable itself. double tripple check the plugs and harness alot fo times tihngs get pinched or pop out when u pull the guages out, i did mine today in my 95 coupe and it does get pretty tence so it would be reasonable to think that somehting got pinched or unplugged.

 

i didnt mean ti sounds like the rubberband man i meant the rubberbands inside the guage that controls each unit.

 

Try putting another vss in and testing it, it happens from time to time, where they just stop working.

Happened to my friend and didnt throw a code either.

 

Well it is working now at least which is good. I'm going to give the vss a try and see what happens. I just wasn't sure cause I always saw people saying speedo and tach and mine was just speedo.

 

try checking your vss plug that happened to me to and it was a dirty vss plug. i had to chop the old one off and replace it with another one. or just try cleaning it up a little.. worked for me

 

They always get dirty, and water gets in.

the tangs in the sensor... bend them slightly so they contact better and clean w/qd elecrtical cleaner
