Default f22 problem

I got my original f22a6 in my 92 cb7 and the other day it started, i guess you could call it a "performance lag". But anyway when i've been driving around the past few weeks my car will sort of choke and want to die while driving around 3k when i try to accelerate. basically the rpms drop and it sputters, but flooring it and shifting into a lower gear (what ive been doing) makes it move then. at first it was only happening sometimes in fourth gear but then it started doing it in third, then second now first, its gotten worse now so now i cant pull up the hill in my driveway and/or pull into traffic in first cause it will sort of die trying.

happens when its warmed up usually
doesnt happen everytime but pretty consistent
stomping on the gas helps it
i think i have a loss of power overall not just when it happens

another thing: if i hold the rpms steady @3k when it starts dying i will press the gas more and it will die but if i let go of gas and sort of blip the throttle real fast it will be fine,, just have to keep blipping the throttle.

in the next week or so i plan on doing some maintenance, along with fixing this problem but the list includes:

new timing belt
new water pump
new distributor
spark plug wires
spark plugs
fuel filter
clean EGR valves
air filter
along with all the gaskets and random little things that go along with it

Thanks and if anyone has any similar problems let me know what was wrong, im sure im not the only one this has happened to i just dont know what to search to find the answer...

Sounds like a clogged exhaust or fuel supply issue.

Do you know if your Catalytic converter has ever been changed?

If your catalytic converter is good then try looking at your fuel supply system. Check your fuel pressure, could be a week pump or bad fuel pressure regulator. Clogged fuel filter or injectors.

you know, my 92 did the same thing for a bit...kept getting worse and worse, and had alot of popping and preignition problems...a week later my timing belt snapped...so I'd check that sucker (unless you know it's been replaced sometime in the last 40k miles) and then move on. usually bad plugs/wires wouldn't cause something that serious, unless there is NO plug left lol. but cleaning the EGR wouldn't necessarily fix the problem, unless it's a compound issue with something else. like Ghost said, check the injectors, do the fuel filter (prolly one of the first things to do, since it's like, 15 minutes and $19) and if that doesn't work, i'd bet injectors or your fuel pump's going out.

Do you smell alot of raw fuel after a bit?
