welding mask lens
Hi, I have a basic adjustable auto darkening welding mask, Ive had it for years, works great. Now, there is almost like a protective sheild infront of the actual lens, and it takes any flying slag and I believe its replaceable, just so that the actual lens dosen't get damaged.
Now, I had some welding to do tonight for a friend, and It was just so.. stained and damaged, that I just removed it, to get another and welded without it.
Im just wondering if there is a possiblity its some sort of replaceable 'pre filter' before the dark lens? If removing it might cause damage to my eyes, as well as possible damage to the actual lens.
Just a replaceable lens cover, or a 'pre-filter'?

i dont know if you can get from cyberweld.com, i have a speedglas 9002x and they have "service kits" for them. inners outters and batteries for like 30 bucks.
if you can get the measurements for you hood, im pretty sure any welding supply will have the lens' for you.
i had a cheap northern hydraulocs hood, back in the day, and my local supplier had standard lens' that fit it.

^^yeah The clear lense doesnt do anything about "prefiltering" and wont ruin your eyes. but welding without it is a good way to mess up your helmet.
Most welding supplies stores will be able to help you out, just tell them what kind of helmet you have. Or do what wiertech suggested and just trim one to fit.
