Hi! I'm trying to install a/c auto in my ED9 EDM and I'm loooking specifically for the interior wiring diagrams of EF8 but any information on this topic will suit me (photos, pictures, etc.).

I'm doing exactly the same on a EDM EE8 CRX VTEC !

So, we first have to check if you have all the parts !

Well... First of all, in my case, I already had the manual AC in my CRX ( installed by... Myself... R134a Converted Nippodenso AC compressor... Fully Working ! )

So, I purchased a few months ago the climate control Keyboard... But I immediately noticed that it can't work... YOU NEED ALL THE JDM PARTS inside the car.

( parts in the engine bay can be EDM ones, we don't mind... Excepted the engine bay AC harness that must be the JDM one but you will also need the EDM one and make an 'hybrid' harness from both harnesses as they are a bit different )

You will also have to add an electric module to the heating core inside the car... ATTENTION : even if you have that control module ( this is the one that repalces the cable commands that are linked to your stock control keyboard ), this part comes from a RHD CRX !!!! So you will have to relocate it below the heating core to make it work properly !

On my end : I have to solve a very last problem... In the engine bay harness ( the JDM one that was cut in my case... ), I still have to identify 1 last wire : a pink one... and this is the one that controls the newly added heating core module !

So... 1 more wire to connect and the job is done !

Not easy to install but... Possible !

By the way, I'm working for a former HONDA dealer and have all the CRX workshop manuals !!! It does really help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Google search EF8 shop manual. There is a jdm manual that has been translated into english readily available!

But good news : a friend in the UK has just found me the missing harness ! So... I will know where the last pink wire goes !!!!!!!!

If I can find how to connect that very last wire : I won't even need the wiring diagram anymore !!!!!!!!! )

And I will post on "How to place a RHD Auto AC in a LHD CRX !!!!!"

But, to anyone who would like to do it : it is far from being "Plug and Play"

The main difference is in the additional control module and the 6 pin's plug near the ECU !
4 wires on LHD CRX and 5 on the JDM SiR RHD Harness !!!!!!!!!

But I will explain and shoot pic's of all those differences !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Just some quick tidbits in regards to this.

The pink is for an the outside air temperature sensor, which is located behind the front bumper.

A majority of these parts are already located on the USDM Crx, or any other model that has the "Push Button" Climate Controller.

There is an extra motor that is located under the heater core (you will need to reverse polarity on a LHD car), there is also the water temperature sensor that is located under there (may be able to use a CL or Legend one)

There are 2 relays that are specific for this setup, the resistor is also a 5-pin rather then the 4-pin. You NEED the 5-pin resistor in order for this to work. You will also need the "brain", its the black box with yellow plugs.

I received my wiring cut, so I am still trying to figure out what goes where, but hopefully sometime in September I will have my Auto-Climate control working in a USDM LHD Crx.

I believe the a/c components are the same. The only one I am uncertain about is the a/c thermostat temp inside the cabin part.

The other thing is the tubing (not remembering the name off hand), it goes heater core-inside air temp sensor-heater core. You need to craft this to work if you didn't receive the correct components.




Hope this information helps others. I still have more research to do though.

I was almost sure a very last thing was missing as I couldn't find where to connect that pink wire ! Fortunately, a friend is parting-out a RHD JDM EF8 CRX in the UK and it does have the Auto-AC !!! So, I will soon get those last missing parts !

Next step : converting the JDM RHD ALB System to my EDM CRX !

I already have the power-steering converted on my LHD EDM CRX !

Fully working of course... Soon the auto AC and the last one : the ALB !!!!!!!!!

Well... May be I will be able to help you as... My harness in the car is 100% uncut !!!!!

I do have all the plugs !!!!!! Only the harness going to the engine bay was half-cut... with that pink wire I didnt't know where to connect to...

About the heater core : I simply let the additional motor wired like stock... I simply relocated it to operate properly on the heater core. Because screwing this motor from a RHD heater core to a LHD one is not "plug 'n play", turning it over is also not possible ( it does have a dual function : opening / closing the water circuit's valve in the engine bay and opening / closing the main panel in the heater core ).

( water temp sensor : OK... 5 pin's resistor : OK... "Brain" box / yellow plugs : OK... )

In fact, I have just checked my harness : it's still connected to all the plugs... So I do exactly know which wires go where !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will shoot pic's as soon as possible ( this week ) and post you all this here !!!!!!!!

 

I would greatly appreciate pictures of an uncut harness. I had another member on another board that kept saying "I will take some tomorrow for sure", been going like that for 6 months. Lol.

He was the only person I knew of that spoke English that had one in his possession.

So if you could get pictures of the connectors that would be awesome. I'm really curious with how the resistor plugs in, if it's part of that harness or part of the main harness.

That is the one plug I don't have (plan to look through cars at the junkyard for one, or just make one myself

But... Finding an uncut harness, it's not so difficult in fact ! ( Yes : I assure you ! )

Well : basicly, the auto aircon is a JDM option... Which means : found in JDM RHD EF8 SiR CR-X's... So... Do not only search for those rare parts in Japan but also in all the countries where people have RHD cars : Japan ( of course ), Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong ( former british colony ) and UK ! I found all my parts in the UK !!!!!!!!!

In most of those countries, people speak english !

So... I hope this will help you finding a harness !!! )
( would be easier than trying to make one I think... )

Also, you can get the wiring from all Civic/Crx models from 88-91. It was a factory option and a dealer option.

Could you take a picture of the harness attached to the aircon unit? Hmmm maybe it's better if I get a picture of my wiring to show you what I need a picture of.

You're going to Japan : just come back with the harness you need !

... and find a Honda dealer and ask him for a copy of the EF8 worshop manual including the wiring diagrams !!!!! And all our problems are solved !!!!

If you ever see the JDM CR-X optionnal rear blue glow H emblem... You can bring one back to me !!!! ( Mine is dead and not lighting-up anymore !!!! )

I have an ef8 shop manual but it's waiting for me in japan. I have wiring diagrams with me, but I haven't translated it.

That indiglo H is one of the hardest things to find!! You can't replace the bulb??

 

And finding a crx in japan is actually a bit difficult. But I plan to look around for stuff.

The indiglo H does not use a bulb but... An EL sheet !!!! ( yes, in the early 90's... )
and there has been water in the DC converter and it ended-up in a short circuit...

I don't even know if I still have the indiglo H... Last year, I missed one in Malaysia... 30.00 $ !

Yes... 30.00 $... Sold just a few hours before I found it and asked the seller !!!

Real bad luck... In New-Zealand... A brand-new one ( Yes ! ) was sold in July 2008 !

Yeah, thats who I bought mine from. I received it for ~$70 but has cut wiring, a cracked climate control, missing resistor and plug, and missing the outside air temperature sensor.


I had my friend in Japan order me the outside air temperature sensor (but I think ones from the Acura CL and Legends should work), and a new resistor (still need a plug).

New ( and last... ) problem identified !

As I was connecting everything in the car, I noticed this very last difference with an EF-8 CR-X :

- The Climate control / Auto AC main relay ( the one that connect on the green plug of the car's main harness ) is a bit different : 4 more wires on the JDM version !

I will post pic's ASAP !

One Yellow wire that goes to the engine bay's harness : OK

... and the 3 last ones that are supposed to be connected to the car's main harness but : those 3 wires do not exist on USDM / EDM CR-X's !!!!!!!! (

So, I have to find out what's the use of those 3 wires !

I already took contact with someone I know in Japan to try to get the JDM HONDA wiring diagram ! I will post as soon as I have somthing new !!!!!!
