Ok, I got a D16Z6 with about 240k+/- miles... i'm gonna go FI by the years end.
I was wondering since it has so many miles, should I use that engine or start with a fresh JDM D15B? I'm going to rebuild it with FJD's bottom end kit, so idk if it would make any difference if I use an engine that has accumulated so many miles.

Bottom Line:
I'm buying a pistons, rods, etc etc.. should I use my old d16z6 or buy a d15b?

 

ok so at 240 miles if you re-do the bottom end then you might as well just have the head done and it a refreshend d16z6. i vote rebiuld the d16z6 and tubo that cuz i never have seen a d15 that had the power a D16Z6 did with a turbo.

 

the head doesn't need nothin to it, except the LMA's need to be replaced.. other than that, everythings tip top... i'm just worried about the bottom end, where it counts.. idk much about engine building, but I wonder if all the miles accumulated would cause the block itself to be worn.. any1 can clarify?

btw, i seen turbo d15b's in vegas, they are CRAZY.. but they're pretty much the same as Z6

 

i think he's talking about the d15b sohc vtec motor which essentially is the same as the z6

 

have a maching test the block for you. get it honed and there should be nor problem with a rebuild on the z6

 

I say save the money you'd spend to buy a new engine, and put it into your existing one. Take it to a machine shop and have them check over the crank, the cylinder walls for excessive wear, the block and head for warpage, and have the cylinders honed (or bored if needed). And with the head, at least replace the valve seals as well. If you're doing a rebuild, especially for more power, you should replace as much as possible. While you have the engine apart, get a new oil & water pump, and check the timing belt tensioner. With the $ you save from not buying a new engine, you will be able to buy those new parts and be able to pay for most, or all, of that work at the machine shop. You should do all of that stuff and replace all of those parts regardless of what engine you end up using. A JDM D15B could have just as much wear on it as your stock engine, because it's used.

 

I would just get a d15b since they're cheap and use the z6 tranny.
